‼️ Ok everyone! Alyssa (my daughter) and I will be running this 5k in honor of our sweet boy Will! ‼️ We are so close to our goal!

I realize there is controversy over Autism Speaks within the Autism world itself. I have researched this to see what that’s about. There are 3 primary points of conflict:

1) The autism speaks group isn’t the best at including adults with autism in their management/decision panel. There are many who feel they need to do a better job of this and yes I agree.

2) They supposedly only donate about 4% of the donations they receive to actual Autism families. I have found no concrete evidence of this nor have I found where the rest goes, but I do know this group likes to scientifically research autism (which also costs $) as they want to find the root cause and a “cure” which brings me to

3) Most autistic people do not want a “cure” as they do not feel there is anything to be “cured” about them. I can absolutely understand this.

Most of the autistic community who do not support Autism Speaks wants to promote acceptance OVER awareness. That’s why they have other groups/movements as well such as the #WalkInRed and #RedInstead movements. Autism Speaks is all about Awareness.

Obviously, we are new to this world but we are also surrounded by other parents of autistic children in many groups daily as well as autistic adults and we can tell you that not everyone in this community is against Autism Speaks.

For Our Family - #TeamWill #TeamMoore - we support ALL of the groups/movements as we feel that awareness is just as important as acceptance. Why? Because one can not expect someone to accept something they are unaware of and therefore uneducated on. 😉 All of these groups and movements are equally important and beneficial in our eyes.

Therefore, we will walk/run/crawl, etc. to support all of them at every opportunity possible. 🏃‍♀️

Right now, we are starting with the Autism Speaks 5k on April 7. If you could help Alyssa and I reach our goal for this race, we would truly appreciate it. Thank you!!!
