I really have to brag on my SO’s family. I know a lot of people talk about “monster in laws”, but his family has been so welcoming since the day we started hanging out over a year ago now, and they’ve loved my son like he’s their blood grandchild. It truly brings my heart joy that he will never have to second guess and worry because he and Emberly will be treated as equal. Anytime I need someone to watch jax my bf’s mother offers to help as much as she possibly can, and she has put together this baby shower entirely by herself. My family has not even offered to help her once. My family hardly speaks to me, but will randomly text or call to tell me they love me or something (about 5 times a year). They never ask Colby and I if we need anything, never offer to babysit or see Jaxtyn. They’ve never even put in the effort to get to know Colby, but his family always does things for me! Jax and I lived at his parents with him for practically a year! They took me out for my birthday and did so much that I’ve never had done for me. They helped me with Jax’s 2nd birthday party when my family didn’t offer to do the first thing. It’s really shitty that people who were not even around him for the first year of his life show him more love and attention than any of my family that’s known him since he was born! Oh, but let me post a picture of Jax on fb and I get all the “miss that face” “that’s my boy” etc... must not miss him too much when ya see all the other grandchildren on a regular basis but can’t even text us to come hang out. We spend just about every weekend with my bf’s family, or if I’m at work, they go over there and hang out. I just feel so blessed to have people who genuinely care!

I’m in a similar situation. My own dad & stepmom don’t even communicate with me, though. Haven’t said one word to me or even congratulated us on the pregnancy. It’s really weird, though I have a nagging feeling my stepmom is behind it. Long story short, she’s extremely controlling and was emotionally/psychologically and at time physically abusive to me and my two siblings growing up. As an adult I confronted her about the way she treated us and and she didn’t like what I had to say. She hasn’t spoken to me since, but I’m shocked my own dad won’t even speak to me, essentially choosing her over his only daughter. My in-laws in the other hand ... so so excited and so kind and eager to help us out in any way possible. It makes my heart full knowing my husband’s family loves me as their own. 💗😊

@ashbrd, literally sounds just like our situation. My stepmom has always been very controlling and mentally and emotionally abusive. She ran the show while we were growing up and my siblings and I were always treated differently than her kids. We were pretty much her maids. My dad works out of town 99% of the time so of course all he ever did was take her side and it’s always been like that. He’s always chosen her over us, even when he does get a glimpse of reality and he says he’s done with her and he won’t lose his kids over her, within 5 seconds that goes away. I lived out beginning of January and I haven’t heard from them except once my stepmom asked what the babies name was, and I had text her about some mail being delivered there. My dad had called twice since we moved out. Once, to kick me off his insurance and lie about it. And another time to try and tell me how much he loved me and my son and needed to see him... but they make an effort to see my stepsisters 3 children every weekend if not more. Not once have they asked about spending the day with my son.

I’m so so sorry... it sounds like we have quite a bit in common though and I’ve never met anyone else who’s shared a similar experience - I’ve heard they’re (evil stepmoms) out there, but even my friends’ stepmoms are warm and loving, and treat their stepchild/ren as their own. Most of my friends and even my track & XC coach would call her the “evil stepmother” and “Cruella” because of the way they knew we were treated! Feel free to DM me any time lady. ❤️😘
