So as most of you know Maya is still breast fed. I want to get her off. I've tried everything...it either dosnt last long or results in melt down. On the first day of Nursery..they heard that I breast fed Maya...so gave her a dummy to help settle her when it came to a.nap. i was slightly annoyed at this because I've never given her one. I told them not to give her one. So next time it came to a nap...they patted her back which worked just as fine and I sent her in with a toy from home. But My question is...should I give her a dummy to help get her off the boob? But my worry is the attachment...I mean shes already attached to the boob...and I dont want there to be double attachment...also if she eventually does leave the boob alone...I'll eventually have to wean her off the dummy... Which to me is just stress lol. Its a lot easier than a boob lol as when its gone..its gone. But will she resort back to the boob at that point? Also shes over 2 years old...and personally for me just like weaning off the boob...would be time to wean off the dummy or take it away ( I had one until I was 4( only at bedtime)..so nothing against them..just i never wanted her to have one) I just dont think its a good idea to start giving a 2 year old a dummy...I wish I gave her one from birth lol...my biggest regret and deffo will next time round... I'm just at my wits end with it. I wouldnt mind if it was once or twice aday...but it just seems to be all day on the boob..and mostly for comfort rather than drinking anything. I mean she can deffo live without it as shes at Nursery all day and its not there. And when shes with my sister or auntie...again she doesnt have it. Just seems to be when she is with me..she wants it. It does get me down because its like she doesnt see me as anything else. Only time she really comes to me is to have a suck lol...and then goes off to play.. 😆😆😆 But yeah I dont know what to do.

If it was me I wouldn't give her a dummy if you never have like you said you don't want it to be something else she's attached to I had mine until I was like 6😂😂🙈as for the breast feeding I'm not sure as Olivia is only 3 months lol x

When she wants boob for comfort maybe give her a drink of a juice / water / cows milk dew how that goes xx

@emilyjayne27 Ive tried that...she will drink all the milk and water (6oz of it) and still want the boob. Thing is the boob is the only thing to get her to sleep. Unless of course shes not with me... xx

I know it's harsh and I've never had any experience of this but maybe just say no and cuddle her in a blanket? I don't even know if it would work xxx
Emily ·
Ignore that, I've just messaged you a link I've found and it says not to do cold turkey approach xx

@emilyjayne27 Yup tried that too...tried distraction... even if a few hours pass...eventually she will get worked up over it.....only way she will sleep when with me...is if shes on the boob...or in her pram or in a car. But she hates her pram now and dont have a car. Only go in a car if my sisters take me somewhere. Xxx

Hmm wish I could help sweet, other than that I don't have a clue. Maybe one day she will just not want it anymore xxx

Sounds horrible, but you've just gotta be firm with them and just offer them a cuddle etc when there sleepy etc. I fed Brody till he was 1& a half and he was just using me for comfort and to put himself to sleep too. I just refused to give it to him when he was tired and offered him a cuddle and of he said no I want boob then I just said well I'm offering a cuddle cause your sleepy, if not I'll go back to my job's etc. He was stubborn for a week then gave in. After awhile they get over it though, I know it's horrible at the time as crying for you but it's for the best. But that's what worked for me anyway.
Hope you find something that works for you!

@beffgoude Thank you so much hun, Yeah I just need to be harder on myself and be firmer...I hate when she cries and I think thats why i give in eventually..but yeah just have to tell myself it wont be forever...shes got a lot of control over me at the moment with it. I need to take the upperhand xxx

@winterbaby95 I know what it's like I've been there, I've had that mama guilt when there crying for you, but it doesn't last forever. And you can still be there comfort, just in a different way.
Just prepare yourself for some major tantrums! xx

I agree, at her age she knows what no is and you will have to be strick with it. She’s not going to be hungry from now having it like you say it’s comfort. When she try’s to get it stand and do something else or turn your body. She’s gonna hate it and probably go nuts but I don’t no how else you will do it. I’d avoid the dummy if she hasn’t had it I wouldn’t even start it lol x

I definitely wouldn't introduce a dummy at this point. At this age you'd want to start getting rid of it. I'm not a breast feeder so I can't help with that but I guess like weaning them off anything it will be hard. She will have meltdowns. You have to be consistent and say no. Like you say she can get through the day at nursery etc so it's just a case of sticking to it. Both mine took about a month to get used to going from a bottle to a beaker/ cup. I threw the bottles away so they had no choice. Tantrums galore but they got the idea eventually! I realise you can't throw your boobs away 😂
