Tips for keeping baby latched?

Did your milk come in yet? I ended up having to do formula because my milk didn’t come in till a few days after we were home and we wasn’t getting enough to eat.

@db413, same as you. 9 lb baby wants more than I have. It came in yesterday with about an ounce each breast about every 3 hrs.

Squeeze and start it for him just a little.

@sadiesue0718, yeah this happened with Harmony. I started out with only .5 per breast. Annoying as hell but now I exclusively pump every 2-4 hours. Just depends on my day. I get 2 oz per breast and I put it all in a bottle. I had to supplement for the first few days. I use similac supplementation. It’s the green container. I’m not patient enough to try and get the baby to latch while I have a million other things to do. Sometimes I still have to supplement but not usually.

I have a large chest and the lactation specialist insisted it happened to me because the weight of the tissue would cause the breast to pull towards the weight and affect the baby's latch. I never figured out how to fix it. They made me use a nipple shield but I really didn't like it.

@sadiesue0718, did you ever use a bottle with him? If so he liked the fact the bottle was easier and wishes to have that. If that is true he will hold out as long as he can hoping you will cave in and give him the bottle. The breast is harder to get milk out. With my son I had this issue and the above was why. I did as I encouraged you to do but he still refused and my dr she said he starve well long story short I nursed him for 2 years

I fight Claira to latch every time. But I’m having to supplement still too because I just don’t make enough, no matter how often I nurse or pump I don’t even get an ounce out of each side. But once she latches and stays she’ll nurse for about 10 or 15 minutes but it takes us longer than that for her to latch. She wants the instant food and doesn’t want to work for it. But I’m just as stubborn as she is haha
