I tried expressing some colostrum to trigger labour (don't fancy having a sweep with strep b), looks disguisting, should I chuck it or offer to my daughter? :)
@winterbaby95 they shouldn't, but they might - very unlikely though. Yes, I had multiple sweeps in labour as well, they basically get in (so unblock the show) and detach the amniotic sac from the uterus wall, and in that space between the wall and the sac the bacteria from the vagina gets in. Shouldn't be a problem if all is well with the sac, but there is a theoretical danger, so a little stressed.
On the other hand I don't want to cancel the sweep either, I got pregnant before my period started and amenorrhea can cause early placenta death and is also quite dangerous, plus I'm almost 30, don't want to find myself still pregnant at 42 weeks this time. Last time the sweep worked well though!
@kate_smith I dont think sweeps break your waters? Membranes of your cervix are different to the amniotic sac ? I had a sweep after my waters had gone, I was 1cm...the sweep just sped up the dilation process xx
@winterbaby95 I know... But if the sweep doesn't work, then I'll have to walk around with strep b inside the uterus for a week :/ presumably if the membranes are intact it should be fine, but how do you really know for sure...
