Last night was one of the scariest moments of my life.

I was sitting in our chair rocking Bradley and I fell asleep. He was warm, probably a low grade fever. 15 minutes later, I woke up to him convulsing. I laid him on the floor and called 911. He was convulsing for about 3 minutes when they arrived. He stopped, but was unconscious/unresponsive for another 20-30 minutes. We got to the ER (they let us drive ourselves) and he finally came to. They said his temp spiked too fast, causing the febrile seizure. They tested him for influenza, which came back positive.

I knew about them, but I never figured he’d have one, especially because he was up playing all day yesterday. Please make sure you know what to do in case of a seizure! My training made me a lot more calm in the moment and I knew exactly what I needed to do. We are now alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen to keep his temperature down.
