Anyone opt to have their bedroom in the basement and keep their kids on the main floor for safety concerns?
The room downstairs needs an egress window before anyone will be moving into it, it’s a future project.
I had a thought to put us (hubby and I) in the basement for safety reasons, and have the kids upstairs on the main floor Incase of fire. We, the adults, will be much more likely to get out of the basement Incase of an emergency than the kids, then we can break in the windows and get the kids off the main floor if they haven’t already gotten out.
Thoughts or suggestions? I’m still trying to convince my hubby of this because he thinks the kids will sneak out.... I’m like, ALL teenagers sneak out at one point or another.... AND I’m talking about when they are like 5 y.o......

I'm a helicopter mom so to be that far from my kids would make me paranoid. But on the safety side. I think your right and it's a really good idea. I would be worried about break ins and I can see being worried about teens sneaking out. But that's nothing ADT, security cameras and spot lights can't fix👍

We do it reverse. My kids have the "basement" and were on the main level. If there was a fire, they have a quick exit through the backdoor and they do have windows we could get into. We also have ADT and cameras. The room that separates us has a motion detector, so once they get to the age of potentially sneaking out, we just set that and it'll take care of itself. It was a little nerve wrecking at first since my daughter isn't even 2, but we have enough monitors to know where she is at any given time and she always just loves waking us up the second she gets up. Even if it's 5am 😂

@julia1roxie, We are also in Idaho, so we don’t need a CCP to carry a pistol any time all the time. So if someone breaks into our house after seeing the security camera notice, they have a death wish for sure!
I don’t want to be that far from them either but I’d rather be in the basement than have one of them in the basement....
