Hey mums, me again 🙈
I'm really struggling trying to get my 5 1/2 week old into a routine. I've established a bit of a bedtime routine but in the day I feel like I'm all over the place. My baby feeds 4oz every 3 hours but sometimes shows signs of hunger every 2 hours. I just want a set time in the morning like 7.30 where she feeds, has playtime, sleeps etc. Also can anyone explain a dream feed. I kind of understand it but if my baby is due a feed around 10-11 anyway, do I just top up her bottle?

I think bed time routine is more important than day time routine :) at this age they pretty much sleep anyway :) She sounds like she is going through a growth spurt hun :) I think a.dream feed is when you pick baby up whilst they are still sleeping and then give a bottle etc xx

She is a nightmare to get to settle 🙈she has short sleeps then wakes upset and is a nightmare to get back off. I feel like she gets overtired. I'm gonna try the dreamfeed and see if she had longer stretches at night xx

I think it'll be hard to set certain times for feeds at this age as their still so small and their feeding habits change quite regularly. I understand the need for routine. I started a bedtime routine with Max at 7weeks, but day time still needed to stay flexible. Every babies different so I usually just follow their lead. Morgan drank quite routinely but Max was very hungry and his feeds were quite random lol

@sara-lou86, it gets quite stressful doesn't it 🙈hopefully as she gets older, she might fall into a nice routine xx

With Morgan I never tried to implement a routine. He naturally fell into one when he was a bit older. I did try a bit more with Max, purely for my own sake as I wanted our evenings back and I had Morgan so needed to be out the house at certain times etc. Routine is good and works for some but while their little I just kinda go with the flow!

@sara-lou86, did you ever introduce a dream feed?
Sara-Louise·
I tried it with Morgan a couple times but I've never really understood how people do it! He'd be asleep so wouldn't take the bottle in his mouth let alone drink it. I've always fed on demand and never wake for a feed they'll wake when their hungry lol

@sara-lou86, I don't get it either. My baby usually has a feed 7-8 but this can vary. She be due another bottle 10-11 anyway so I don't understand the dreamfeed. They say it's feeding them whilst asleep but my baby would be awake anyway cause she's hungry x

Yeh same. I'd feed them say 7/8pm and they'd go down to sleep. If they stayed asleep, great! I wasn't gonna try and feed them. Morgan would sleep until 1or 2am so I'd just feed him again. Max would wake about 12 so I'd feed him. As time goes on they sleep for longer stretches so the feeds become more spaced out. It's perfectly normal at your daughters age to be very random still.
