What are some good learning toys or books etc to help your kids learn abcs and 123, animals, shapes, etc I mean maybe it's a little early for some but I guess it's never to early. A lot of his toys do them anyway but I figure something to really teach it. One of the therapists say to sit down with him and do books with pictures but he won't sit with me with books like that.

Yeh i keep hoping mines will like reading time but he likes to close the books

@missjess, I got my little ones flash cards. He is a little older but he likes to do them

I got him flash cards, too. We also watch the Super Simple Songs on YouTube. They have shapes and counting and body parts, and have taught him a few words and body parts. We don't do the cards for long, because it is still pretty early for much structured learning, but songs and reading do a lot too.

I got my oldest first 100 words book. They have shape & animal ones also. They were the first books she actually paid attention to. We also did puzzles & teaching her as we went about our day.

Try Melissa and Doug puzzles (alphabet and numbers, etc) learning and working on gross motor skills! I bought some for Christmas for my daughter. Haven't started yet but when I think she's ready. We read all the time.

@mommyof2girlz, my sons gross motor skills are delayed 😕 he crawls and stands and walks holding on to things but won't walk by himself. But they say everything else he is doing really well in. He mimics what we do and say or try's to at least. It's just getting him to sit with us and actually look at books or a certain thing to practice. I use to read with him all the time and sometimes I still do but he barely pays attention or try's to rip the book out of my hand lol

@missjess, try reading even 1-2 minutes at a time (even if it's not the hole book). Increase as his tolerance to sit will. My daughter is 2 months younger. Not quite walking on her own but she tries. Do you have something he can push to motivate him to walk

Also try mega blocks, different shape rattles for picking up. We have a rhythm game we do after she's eating on her high chair and copy each other. Just tapping different simple beats.
