That’s how they did my fiancé. I didn’t think to call the offset line for him before hand to find out. It’s the wrong time for them to take it due to us going through hardship already. I hope it’s something they can do but I’m sure like you said they want theirs first

If you’re married and you filed together he can file injured spouse. It takes time but my husband and I had to do it last year. Fortunately this year I started making payments on my student loans so I don’t have to worry about it this year.
