Okay moms, I really don’t know where to turn to, because my pediatrician won’t answer the phone this late. Oscar has small rashes around his legs and arms, I’m pretty sure it’s eczema. Also he’s a lot hungrier than normal and never satisfied. He has a hard time falling asleep now and won’t take naps throughout the day anymore. He will only sleep through the night now, which is great. But he needs to nap a lot according to everything I’ve ever read about babies. He latches on and off constantly when he eats and is like I said never satisfied really. It’s only a matter of time before he’s hungry and eats again. My nipples are sore and I don’t know what to do. He just looks confused and annoyed a lot. He’s acting so different. I don’t know if it’s another weird growth spurt or what. He also barely poops anymore, unless it’s every two or three days apart and now he’s been digesting faster? And has pooped a little bit more. I have no idea what to think... HELP!

Sounds like a growth spurt.

@britt16, What should I do about his eczema? And why do you think he latches on and off a lot while feeding if he’s not done eating?

I went though something a little similar! I was only able to nurse for 2 weeks because my son would latch on and off. He ended up being tongue tied so he wasn’t getting enough milk because he couldn’t stay on! I had to end up putting him on formula. He just needed more. Idk how you feel about formula feeding but maybe try giving him a bottle or 2 of formula that’ll ensure he’s getting enough and it’ll give your body a little break.

@sarasmilesatyou, my son has it too and his doctor told us hydrocortisone!
Sara·
@jessicaperez72, Thank you, I have been giving him bottles of my breastmilk and sometimes that helps. You think he’s self-weaning? I have suspicions that that might be it. But my doctor thinks that he’s just getting distracted or annoyed because maybe my letdown is too quick? Ugh. I wish there was a guidebook for newborns..

U might need to add formula and find a gentler way to bath him
Sara·
@jessicaperez72, I’m sorry, I was trying to view your latest comment and accidentally deleted it :( can you retype what you said..? I’m sorry!

@sarasmilesatyou, yes I said my son has it too and his pediatrician told us hydrocortisone cream!
Sara·
@jessicaperez72, I was told that breastmilk helps eczema? So I tried that and then cleaned him up after letting it air dry and then I put aveeno baby eczema on him and I’m hoping that will work. Yes! Exactly! I never know what I am doing and when I feel like I have it figured out, he throws me a curve ball. Just like now.

Don't give up on breastfeeding. Sometimes they latch on and off because of many things. It just needs narrowed down. Try a different hold like the football hold. Does he have thrush? Is he fussy while feeding? Could be a fast let down so hand express first then try feeding. Simply try switching sides. (This worked for my daughter)
Do try breastmilk on the eczema or an oatmeal bath or a breastmilk bath.
Hungrier than normal is most likely a growth spurt. And babies do cluster feed esp during growth spurts. If your nipples are sore he may be latched wrong. Try a different hold and see if that helps.

@morganmommy79, I don’t want to give up on breastfeeding if I can help it. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong...He doesn’t have thrush. He’s not even really fussy, he just seems distracted and always hungry. I have him on the football hold when he’s feeding on the left and a cradle hold when he’s feeding on the right. I’m not sure what to do, so I’m waiting for the next breastfeeding support group so I can find out what I can do..but thank you! I appreciate your input! :)

Sorry I laughed at the end of reading this. A baby can go without pooping for 5 days, since your breastfeeding it’ll help a lot with his digestive system and done believe everything you read because it’s just an estimated time line for babies and so on. Every baby reaches a different mile stone at a different pace then other babies. The red dots could be a small irritation from something, or it could be something you’ve ate?
Sara·
@aloha808, It’s okay! Yeah I know, it’s just so hard because google is almost always reliable. But maybe it’s because I’m always so worried about my baby. I think it could be something I ate or maybe the laundry detergent we are using for his clothes or the cold weather. I have no idea :(
