So my boyfriend and I were talking at dinner and he told me he doesn’t want to ever get married. I was taken back a bit, he’s 26 and we are about to have our second kid together. We’ve been together for 5 years and the fact that NOW he tells me he doesn’t want to get married frustrates the hell out of me. I’m still young so marriage right now is out of the question but the fact that he just said he doesn’t ever want to get married irritates me. Why am I here building a life with him if he doesn’t want the same thing as me. Am I right to be so frustrated? It’s like why waste my time. Ugh.

I would be frustrated too. Did he give any reasons? Afraid of responsibility? Different views on marriage? That's hard.

I agreed with you that u are young and marriage is out of question but I will tell you one thing marriage is a big step in life and I understand you guys been together for 5yrs and put all jokes to the side u truly have to see how things go before marriage and but maybe he has a different side of it or possibly maybe he was joking aroud

@kat616, he said he doesn’t want to be the center of attention, he thinks it’s pointless, and he doesn’t want to be pressured into it. Which is funny he said that because we’ve never really talked about marriage or getting engaged or anything. This is really the first time in 5 years we’ve talked about it and all of a sudden he feels pressured. We both come from very broken homes, and I think the commitment scares him. But he did decide to make a great joke about having to be stuck with me the next 18 years and always having to see each other when we drop the kids off at each other’s houses🙃

@sarahlee2019, yeah it really is a huge step, it’s a life long commitment. But what bothers me is if he didn’t see a future with me, then why on earth build the family that we have now. He wasn’t joking around, I could tell by the way he was going at the conversation that he was just being cautious at what he was saying. I’m just frustrated with the whole situation

@kcamps sounds like he might be scared of the commitment like you said. But i agree he should of said that at the beginning!

Well I can understand that but maybe it's time to think about it or maybe split up and move on or just relaxed and see what happens...I hope that he doesn't want some and then just leave one day without even saying a word

@chelseymamma I can understand that but she said that they are young so it really hard to make that kind of decision

Your right to be frustrated of course, maybe he isn't thinking long term and is moreso thinking in the now or more near future .. 😕? I say just give him some time, u guys do have lots of time since your younger. Unfortunately I was married twice by the time I was 29 so I look at it alot differently then when I was younger. I bet u guys will marry eventually, sometimes guys wig out because of the whole wedding idea

I personally think committing makes a relationship stronger. Relationships are about deciding, not sliding. But of course both of you have to decide and like boymom said that could take some time. But I do come from an unusual culture...I got married at 21 and we didn't live together beforehand.

Marriage isn’t everything trust me. I’m married and going thru a divorce rn. I would most likely never get married again but I do want a family and wanna b with my baby daddy forever. Why does it matter if u have a piece of paper that says ur married? Maybe ur man would b cool with a celebration of love part were u commit to be together minus the legal bullshit. Who cares about a stupid paper. All that matters is he loves u and ur children at the end of the day.
