Just wanted to vent. So my sister has a 18 month old and she is the sweetest baby ever, but I feel like something isn’t right. She developmentally behind for her age, she’s very tiny (weight and height), and all she does is cry. I’m not exaggerating when I say she cries 24/7. I just feel like something isn’t right. My sister wasn’t the best with her pregnancy either. She didn’t realize she was pregnant for the first 6 months (which I still have a hard time believing but) and she drank and smoked weed during that time. She didn’t take prenatals or really take care of herself either. She’s my half sister and we weren’t raised together (we have the same dad but different moms) so we really only got close in the last 2 years. Since she found out she was pregnant she’s quit drinking and smoking and I’m very proud of her. Still she doesn’t read to her baby or do anything to teach her things. I feel like she should be walking and talking by now and shes barely doing that. All she does is sit her in front of a tv. I just feel like something isn’t right. I dont know it might be the jealousy in me because I struggle with endometriosis and I’ve been wanting a baby for so long! I just don’t feel like she’s doing everything she could be doing with my niece.

Do you see her being fed at all while being around them?

And it's ok to be concerned, don't be so hard on yourself; also it's not jealously, it takes a whole lot for someone to point out that something doesn't feel right between a mother and her child.

@gorjess.2993, she feeds her! I feel like she could feed her healthier food. Like last time I saw her she fed her ramen noodles. I don’t think she harms her or hurts her, I just feel like she doesn’t really love her.

@ashlynnmarie maybe offer suggestions? Like ask her if she's tried broccoli (for example) or ask what does she like to see if she's offering more than just noodles and an actual balanced diet. Or maybe an invite to have lunch to show her some foods she should be feeding her...?

I’ll try that. Normally when I give advice she hits me with the whole “it’s not easy being a single mom” which is like a dig at me because I’ve had two miscarriages. At this point anytime I come over I clean her hot mess apartment up and bring some fresh food and veggies. Sometimes she cooks them and sometimes when I come back a week or two later they are still in the fridge.

@ashlynnmarie awww that's nice! And she should consider your advice a bit more seeing that you do help her. But keep it up, it will be good for everyone in the end.

She is not. She really is hurting her!! But as an aunt since u said ur close ask to take her for weekends and you be the mom she needs. Really takes a village to raise a child. Hold the baby a lot give it physical contact, make baby smile, read to baby. All you can do is do everything on ur part to help.

Maybe contact the early child development center and ask questions see what u can do. It’s all free through ur state. If u can get her to do evaluation they come to the home and help! It’s amazing. Many parents use it at the preschool learning center I work at. We have 6weeks-5yr olds. In Kansa it’s called Tarc idk what it’s called anywhere else. But they will help.
