Really need some advice from seasoned moms - I’m a FTM and my daughter is 9 days old. She was good about eating every three hours, and we got her up to 2oz per feeding. She was exclusively eating the ready to feed enfamil premium newborn formula. We started to transition her to the powder version, as it is more cost effective and since the ready bottles only go to 2oz, make more sense. We got the green light from the pediatrician to do this, but since giving her the powder, she is sleeping more, not waking up and crying because she is hungry, I actually have to wake her up and basically force her to eat.
Been even giving her 4 hours between feedings, but sometimes she will only take 1oz at a time, and then an hour later want the other 1oz. Today she took the powder formula, and took 2.5oz, but about 4 hours later, she threw it all up - I would clean up the first set of puke, and then she would be okay for 5 minutes, and puke again, and then she did this a third time.
I was worried about her empty belly, so my husband and I waited about 45 minutes before trying to feed her again, and we went back to the ready made formula because we weren’t sure if the powder had been the culprit of the upset stomach and I just want her fed. It took 30 mins for her to take 1oz, and now we are resting, and she is fussy but won’t take any more.
Also her poop is a mustard yellow when it is usually more of a darker yellow or green and seedy.
What do I do? Any suggestions? Should I call the doctor?

Her poop is supposed to be that color.
Newborn poo goes through stages and that’s the next stage.
Anyway, the hospital I had my baby at would only allow us to let the baby let us know when he wanted to eat, instead of putting him on a schedule. Powdered formula is sometimes thicker than the premade stuff (and a lighter color). Let her tell you when she wants to eat. She’s not going to let herself starve, or over eat. Babies don’t have a reflux like adults do, meaning if they over eat, there’s nothing to keep it down so they just puke it up. It looks scary but is normal and not a big deal like throwing up as an adult is.
I went through all this craziness when my son was first born. She’ll be okay! She has instincts too!

She’s more than likely fussy now because you’re trying to feed her and she’s still full. Just let her tell you when she’s hungry! You’ll get the hang of this!

Burp her more in between feeding. Ex: If she has had 1oz stop her feeding and burp her and then continue with the feeding if she's still wanting more milk. Then burp her again after the 2nd oz. It will help with the spitting up.

@fasciamom, thank you! I tried this too and she is sleeping and eating better. I ended up having to go back to the ready to feed as she likes it better. At least for now and my sanity we are gong to have to do this and then I was thinking in a few months we can try the powder again
