Warning ⚠️, probably controversial, but I don’t care I have to get it off my chest.

Am I the only parent who is sick and tired of society counter-parenting me at every turn while still being forced to listen to ignorant people still blaming the parents for their teens actions?

When I was growing up, music and tv were a million times more wholesome than they are now, not to mention social media didn’t even exist. Things have taken a drastic turn since then.

I am SO disgusted at the music most of our kids listen to now, around us or not. Almost all of it is rap, and I used to love rap, but now it’s promoting and glorifying violence, drug use, hate, racism, and what really gets under MY skin - female degradation/sexism!

Every song I hear refers to women as nothing but sexual objects, bit*^hes, whores, sluts, cunts, you name it! It disgusts me and it is absolutely against everything women have fought so hard against in our battle for equality and respect for decades! Why do we allow this to continue?! It’s NOT ok!! I am constantly telling my daughter how I don’t condone that music and I find it disgusting and offensive to all women. I pray that one day she will see this for herself!

In addition, why is acceptable for the N word to be used in this music?! It shouldn’t be acceptable to anyone in any context at all! My daughter goes to a school that is 98% African American. She is in middle school. This is the type of music everyone she has made friends with there listens to. It was also the type of music her friends listened to at her previous school. What gets me is I have seen videos of the kids at her school calling each other the N word, even calling her that. No, she wasn’t videoing them for this reason. They play with her phone sometimes as well as their own phones and all video each other playing around, not a big deal. However, It’s become a socially acceptable term amongst our kids! I pray every day that my daughter doesn’t slip up and use this term around the wrong person who doesn’t understand how this has become NORMAL for kids her age of all races! (No she doesn’t use it in conversation with or around me) It’s used in the music they listen to, it’s used on TV, it’s used by their friends. It doesn’t matter how much a parent says it shouldn’t be said, who do you think kids are going to listen to in their teens?! NOT the parents!

Sure, we could all isolate our kids. Take away their phones, TVs, radios, and dictate their friends, but where would that leave us and them?! I’m just so sick of how we allow the entertainment industry to do and say whatever they want, knowing it impacts our children, yet condemn parents when their teenage kids develop their own personalities - which is based on a combination of EVERYTHING in their lives, and do or say stupid things or make stupid mistakes.

Parents only have a small percentage of influence in their kids lives, they can’t control their kids forever and they certainly can’t dictate who they become as people. Personally I would LOVE to see more censorship on the entertainment industry as a whole. However, I know that will never happen so instead, we need to stop blaming parents for everything their kids do, don’t do, say, or don’t say.

If we didnt like that type of music then it wouldn't be played. A large amount of society likes that type of music which is why it is okay. I personally dont use the "N" word and i think it is gross but our culture has turned it into a word that is used like "buddy" or "pal" because is was so degrading when it was being used that bow using it isnt as harmful. Depends on the person. I dont think that anyone should use it but i also dont think that any other race should use it. As a people we have to come together and stop buying to all the ignorance so it can die. The more we starve it, the better.

@morgan.k, exactly!! That’s my point. I get so tired of the immediate parent shaming for kids that go rogue. The parents can be very good people who tried their best but the friends that child surrounded himself with and the music they listened to and the idols they tried to be like and the School they attended and the other adults that had a part in their lives, can be an even bigger influence than the parents alone.

@beemommyof3, so true! We have to do it together or it won’t happen. I’m just afraid that will never happen because theirs so much hate and intolerance in this world. People don’t want to work together to build a better future for our children. They can’t see what is happening and how future generations will be even more messed up than us if we don’t.

But you can educate your child and that may be enough. My son goes to a predominately Caucasian school and I notice he doesnt deal with the same struggles as my nephews who go to a predominately african American school. They have to wear the right shoes, have to have the right clothes, and listen to certain music. My son on the other hand loves those ugly ass Batman shoes that light up from walmart, i buy them because he likes them and everyone at school thinks they are cool. now my nephews on the other hand love those but my sister buys them jordans because other kids made fun of them. The difference is night and day. The atmosphere is even different. I like the fact that my son can be himself. These days parents are parenting out of fear and not just doing what is right for their children.

@beemommyof3, you are so right. My daughter is 13. Since we moved from a school that was relatively 50/50 to a school that is 98% African American, she has changed so much I hardly recognize her. She talks different, acts different, dresses different, and talks to me with this tone that I can’t stand all the time. It’s not her. Her grades have dropped, she spends more time in her room than ever. I am happy she made friends so quickly but I don’t know them. They don’t come around. I don’t know if they are good influences or not but her ways now make me think they aren’t. It scares me truly.

@brookemmoore I think certain things parents do can alter the way a child thinks but I'm talking abuse and not validating feelings or belittling them but I'm a believer in once you reach a certain age it's time to become an adult and stop blaming other for the way someone grew up. Sometimes it's true but most of the time, not.

Yeah. that is what is hard about school is that your child is around other peoples kids and they teach differently then you. I never told my son what his privates were called, i only told him that his privates should never be touched by anyone. First day at first grade he learns its a penis and girls have vaginas and im like ugh!! I know it isnt a big deal but its like damn let me teach him how i want to. Even bad words. He knows all of them now because garren at school has a potty mouth. smh. You gotta raise your babies by 5 before the schools get a hold of him or pay for private school. 😔😔😔

Transgender children So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do u think the parents are behind this? Idk because I haven't met the parents or children. I just think at 5 it's very young for children to really understand. What do u ladies think?

I’ve posted about my defiant toddler many times before but I’m really at a loss now. She deliberately disobeys. Like, she knows what “no” means and if she’s doing something she knows she’s not supposed to I can ask “do you want to go in timeout?” And she’ll answer “no” and SOMETIMES stop.. I can’t take her anywhere cause she refuses to listen. She runs wild, screams, throws tantrums etc. At home she’s just as bad and absolutely nothing I do or say helps. Timeout doesn’t work, hand poppings don’t work, a pop on the butt doesn’t work, I’ve tried getting down to her level and calmly explaining things or trying to make sure she knows that I understand her emotions and things like that but I’m not even kidding when I say nothing works with her. I’m constantly telling her no and even though she knows she’s going to get into trouble she will do it anyways and then cream this blood curdling scream when she does get in trouble. I’ve raided Pinterest for days, write everything down, tried everything I found... idk what else to do. Everyone keeps telling me it’s “terrible twos” or “she’s just strong willed” or that it’s normal for her age and all of that might be true but there’s gotta be some kind of something that will help me teach her to listen to me and such.

Freaky things your kid has said! Today we were listening to the easy listening channel, which is all instrumental. A song came on that was composed in 1943. My three year old DD excitedly says...
