They say you can’t eat because you’ll get food in your lungs and I don’t see how.

@crystal.newman, it’s in case you need an emergency c section. When you’re under anesthesia it can make you nauseous & throw up & you can inhale it.

Oh yeah there’s that. But OB gave me clear fluids. Like broth and stuff. Which was okay but I kept throwing up.

@emily., I just had my third kid (second was almost a csection cause of not being head down but turned at the last minute so it was cancelled by my choice to go for a vaginal birth) and have NEVER been told that. It makes sense, obviously. But didn’t know it could happen.

@brianne, were they letting you eat? If you’re only under regional anesthesia then I don’t think it matters if you eat or not, but some hospitals just make it like a rule.

@emily., nope. Since it was scheduled, they said no eating or drinking past a certain time the day before. They even did that when I got my tubes tied too. I had just had my son the 5th, and I couldn’t eat or drink anything past midnight that night and ended up not getting anything until about 1 or so the 6th. I had to wait that morning for an OR to be available. It was brutal. Dx
