No you shouldn't start solids before the age of 6 months due to open gut. Also, baby rice cereal is just empty calories. Definitely talk to your doctor.

You should always ask your childs doctor i started my son on the baby ceral in his formula at 3 months but thats because he wasnt gaining weight the way either of us wanted him to he still doesnt gain weight fast he has his fathers metabolism

And why would A doctor suggest baby rice to my niece if it's just empty calories and not healthy? I've heard many times that a doctor would say to put a child (ranging from 3-5 months) on baby food. @_sheriee @mom13, my son also is losing weight. He should be about 14 pounds but lost two pounds the past week and a half. He cries for more milk after he is done with his 4-5 oz.

Some doctors aren't updated on their information. Definitely do your own research. Good luck to you and your son.

Change doctors for sure and see what the doctor says but i dont see why adding baby ceral rice would b a no but you do want a doctor to consult with as well

@mom13, I just figured I'd ask. I asked around I guess it's more common now then back then. I should have asked if any moms had started their baby at 3 months. I was gunna ask a doctor before I start him on anything. I always call and ask questions. I'd never would do anything without researching and consulting a doctor.

Well i wasnt sure if u talked to ur doctor and he said no there are some stupid doctors out there my friend had one who just told her all the pain she was in was in her head she ended up in the hospital for 3 days she was septic so i wanted to make sure u didnt talk to a doc and he said no thats a bad thing with ur baby losing weight

Well, if the doctor hasn't seen HIM and you haven't talked to the doctor about this, it's best you wait and hear what the doctor says. The cereal just thickens the formula, at this age, there's a fear of choking among other things. My children were all put on cereal at 4 months + but that was because their doctor said it was okay! Regardless what your sister was told, your son isn't your neice. Just because he told her it was okay, doesn't mean we all should go by that. Every baby is different. Which is why things such as this should be left to the doctor.

@mom13, oh yea girl I know how some are. I had a some pain and hard balls that my doctor told me was just a swollen gland and it was fine. It was a cyst so now it's the size of a golf ball. Also the losing weight from when he has RSV and couldn't drink a lot cause he was having a hard time breathing from his nose. But that was like 2 weeks ago and he should have gained most of his weight back. He was 14 pounds close to 15. And also he has been drinking like 5 ounces every other hour, sometimes he wants more and so I'll give him another ounce or two after I burp him and check everything to make sure that's for sure what he wants. And he only wakes up twice for a bottle in the middle of the night.

When you burp him does he spit up some?
