My pap came out abnormal what does that mean ?

It could mean anything honestly. Don’t worry too much. They may want to do a colposcopy while you’re pregnant but they may wait until after birth to find out exactly why. Mine was the same way. But I’m putting off the colposcopy until after I give birth.

Your doctor will most likely do another pap or further testing to see what is going on. It could be an infection or something else going on. I am sure your doctor will go into further detail with you.

@morgan.elizabeth2018 yea they made an appointment for a colposcopy with me already on January 23 at 9 they said the baby doesn't get hurt from an abnormal pap that's what matters to me the most

Could be hpv

@verguinia, yea! I had an abnormal pap a few years ago and they did the colposcopy and it turned out to be nothing. It happens sometimes and being pregnant could have an impact on if too! I don’t think if affects the baby in any way! I am sure if it did, they wouldn’t do the procedure! I am sure all will be ok!!!

I've had two abnormal paps and a colposcopy. Not while pregnant though. They all turned out to be nothing, but they can indicate something serious, like hpv or cancer. My mother had cervical cancer so I always worry, but most of the time it's nothing.

@verguinia, HPV is an STI. One of the most common to exist.

@verguinia that is why they usually do a colposcopy. To take a sample of your cervix to see what stage it is. Generally if they weren't sure if it was hpv they would do another pap.

@verguinia i hate colposcopies. I told them i am not doing it pregnant. I will do it after the baby comes

During pregnancy they rarely do the biopsies just stain and look at cervix through microscope make sure they don't see anything crazy then just repeat colposcopy after baby born

Most providers do not biopsy during pregnancy so it's just a speculum like the pap then vinegar solution stain then look with microscope so no more pain than an annual pap
