Any mamma's ever deal with a child dehydrated!? My son has been in the er the last two days. The first day on the 8th he went to our local hospital for vomiting everything he drank or ate up, straight water diarrhea (yellow foul smelling) , not urinating and refusing fluids and didn't nurse as he normally does and always sleeping . So they just sent us off as treating him for the diarrhea 😡😡 completely by passing the fact he hasn't pissed his diaper sine 11pm the night before 😡😡 how ever he ended up peeing 3 times including the overnight pee ... And yesterday we went to Akron Children's for no urination AGAIN (just one tops) diarrhea again , and not drinking fluids. Well there they tried zofran which helped with his Nausea so he could drink fluids and he held them down and they sent us off with some zofran ... so today as of now he AGAIN has no wet diapers, and he's still sleeping. In which he is normally awake by now ... he tries to play but will relax on my lap as if he wants to cuddle and he doesn't do that. He's very active. I guess my question is has any mommies went through his and what was the outcome. If he goes back to the er for a third day THEY'RE FINALLY GOING TO DO AN IV LIKE THEY SHOULDVE DONE TWO DAYS AGO. I'm just really worried something is more seriously wrong than what they can see or feel. I just want my baby to be OK again.

Have you called you pediatrician? Sometimes they know your baby better than the er

Yes . They said if he refuses fluids again and either doesn't urinate or they're really spaced out and he's always sleeping again to go back to the er (Akron children's) and they will do an iv.

Have you tried getting him to drink pedialyte? Even if he only drinks a little at least it’s a rehydration drink and will replenish lost fluids and electrolytes. My son went thru the same thing. He wasn’t having wet diapers but the ER doc said that he physically looked like he was hydrated and he was probably conserving all of the fluid because he was getting rehydrated after vomiting and diarrhea and that’s why he wasn’t peeing. Are his lips dry, eyes sunken in, hands and feet cold and blotchy or anything like that??

Aww. Poor baby. I would take him back. I’m surprised they didn’t give him an iv the second time you went in. Sometimes it is very hard to get rehydrated. Have you tried to give him pedialyte? I know that can help.

@shellbell0391 he doesn't like any of that. He loves water and apple juice and refuses those too . Even tried Gatorade and he refuses it. I can get him to nurse but not for long. And when they doctors checked him out at children's they said he personally looked fine he didn't seem dehydrated. But because he hasn't really peed the last 3 days his doctors are concerned and was told if no changes to return for an iv. I'm just confused as to why it takes 3 days for an iv.

@kasonsmama, they don’t like giving babies IV’s unless it’s absolutely necessary I guess because they fight it and they don’t know why they have to have it so they might try pulling it out or something ya know

@starienite he doesn't like that. I tried that the first day we went to the er. The zofran gets him to drink a little but he doesn't urinate. And he's still sleeping so I can't even try and start anything. I just don't want it to be more serious and they're over passing it. To me not urinating is really serious.

@shellbell0391 I understand that but you'd think the second day in the er they would give him an iv with having the same issues he had the day before. Hopefully I can get some progress with him bit it doesn't seem to look up. It just gets worse.

When my daughter had RSV she couldn't eat or drink for days without coughing and vomiting. Once they did the IV she perked up and they gave her a Zofran and some crackers and she started eating right there in the office. The IV was a game changer for us. It was like they gave her the drive to eat again. Hope the same happens for you!

@mct we was told on the 1st of this month my son had croup from being in the er from a horrible cough. And it seems like right after that is when all this starts. A week exactly we end up in the er for all of this stuff going on now.

I would take him back and bring up your concerns to the nurses and doctors at the hospital.

@starienite if he doesn't progress I'm going too . The doctor noted in his charts to get an iv if it's not better. The good part is his doctors is a branch off of Akron children's so he will definitely have an Iv . If it were up to me he would've gotten it yesterday
