Is it legal for a job your applying for to ask for your previous employers paycheck stub? Asking for a friend?

@badadvicemom I just looked into it it's illegal. Spoke to a couple of the deputies I worked with a while back they just passed the law recently here in Texas.

You'll have to look up employment laws in your state. I know here in California they actually just made it illegal for a company to ask your previous salary or wage in order to make you an offer of employment. Unfortunately, I think it's still legal in most states.

That's unfortunate. If they did their payroll through a company like Paychex, she may be able to call and get a copy. Otherwise, new job prospect time.

@badadvicemom she lost everything since Harvey hit her area around hurricane season. I be live she did have direct deposit, but the employer wants to see the hourly rate. So even when she showed her the amount she made it wasn't enough for the lady.

Does she have her W2? They could suffice. I was actually going to suggest either that reason or to verify that dates of employment. Both are legal. Did she get direct deposits or anything?

@badadvicemom to verify she was making what she said she was. The thing is that she hasn't worked for that place in a while and she asked to get a paycheck stub and couldn't get it since its been a while. The lady who interviewed her said that she will not hire her until she gives her a stub.

I mean, it's not illegal. Did they give a reason?
