*Not a political post. Just a rant about a conversation over the holidays*

So by the time baby is born, my husband and I will have been together for 6 years. I’ve been meeting his grandparents for about 5 years as of right now. We traveled out to his grandparents for Christmas and so did his only aunt and uncle on that side. So there wasn’t a lot of people at this gathering but his uncle received a humorous political Facebook post that he shared with the grandparents before we had left our hotel room. So this led into the grandparents needing to know which political party I am with before they would read the post. I’m an independent for numerous reasons and I told them. Well that’s ok with them just as long as I don’t vote for the one party. If I was a member of that one party that we would have some real issues. Now I’m sure most of it was joking around but the grandparents are very intense and I wouldn’t put it past them to suddenly not like me at all and avoid all things baby due to the wrong political party. I’m just surprised that after 5 years of knowing them that something like that would be a deal breaker yet alone brought up now.

it might make them feel a little different but I don't think they should let your political preference impact their relationship with the baby.

@jaxons.mom09, any other people I’d say the same thing. Honestly I’m surprised that my mother in law even talks to them. Only reason why my husband was even conceived was she got drunk and let her first husband have his way. She shortly afterwards filed for divorce (one of those situations where she should never had married the guy). So she was pregnant, going through a divorce and he cleaned out the bank and already ruined her credit. So it is hard not to be any lower in life without a drug problem. She called her parents for help and was told to never bring these problems to them again. So she got a divorce, had the baby, and had no finances all by herself. He well off parents didn’t even help her with her finances since this whole thing was a blemish on the grandparents name. I never could have forgiven my parents if they did that but somehow they mended their bridges. My husband is now the favorite grandchild and everything. So them denouncing me wouldn’t be that far of a stretch for them.
