My son was born premature and therefore I was given a hospital grade pump and since he came home I have switched to the regular Medela Pump in Style breast pump and I am not sure if it’s because i slacked in pumping for a little while or this pump is not as good; however, I am not producing enough milk. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I can increase my milk supply ASAP?!

@kye their are teas and pills that are supposed to help increase milk supply. I haven't had a chance to look anywhere to try and find them. Once I do hopefully one works.

@scorpiogoddess81, That was what I was trying to avoid but I think I am going to have to give that a try if I don’t see a change within the next week or so. My plan was to breastfeed for a year at least but I don’t think that will happen at this rate.

@badadvicemom, I will have to try that because I get tired of just drinking water all the time.

I actually have the same issue. I've had to supplement during the night because I can't pump enough

@kye welcome. And really any liquid helps. Maybe some water rich fruits and veggies. I can't drink water anymore, but settle for half water, half vitamin water 0 and it keeps me hydrated.

In the beginning I was pumping through the night and I stopped but this week I started pumping through the night again. I also am horrible with water so I am going to try and drink more water through the day as well and see if that helps. Thank you so much I hope this helps. @badadvicemom,

@kye there should be a setting that gives more of a "suckling" effect.. I'm sick right now and can't thing straight so I know this is going to sound weird. Do the suckling (which should be quick, low suction) until your breasts start feeling full (let down). When you have your let down that's when the milk starts to really flow. You then switch to more fuller, longer suction. Make sure you're also chugging water while pumping and surround yourself with as many pictures of your little one as possible. If you're able, try to pump more frequently. Are you pumping through the night? Increase your daily water intake as well.

What is quick pumps? I just recently got back on my schedule of pumping every two-three hours and I am only getting about an oz combined, when prior I was getting about five oz combined. I pump for about twenty min per session. @badadvicemom,

First, try and contact a lactation consultant to make sure it's being used right. Pumps can be complicated. Second, are you doing the quick pumps before your let down? How often and long are you pumping
