I have a question. This being my first pregnancy I’m super worried about everything. I work in an assisted living home. There have been a lot of sick residents, and even some cases of staff infection. We also provide house keeping and the cleaners we use are very strong I’m just worried for the health of me and my baby. Plus I do a lot of walking, lifting. I go in at 7am & don’t sit down til 1pm. For the first time the shift is til 3. What are your all’s opinion?

For the chemicals, I would say make sure you wear a mask and gloves. I’m sure you know to wear gloves when dealing with a person. Walking and lifting is okay (and it will make for easier delivery in the long run) but I wouldn’t lift more than 30lbs.... be sure to always drink water, and have healthy snacks available to you at any time. Also talk to your doc about any concerns you may have. Congrats on your pregnancy!

In terms of sick patients I think you would be okay as long as you wash your hands and sanitize very often. Wear gloves, and things like that. Your shift 7-3 is also fine. The problem with your situation is the lifting, especially early on. I lifted a heavy box with one of my pregnancies and I had a miscarriage shortly after. Be careful.
