I think it's because then you can't get the straps tight enough over a big padded thing so if there's an accident it's not as safe! Plus the dangers of babies overheating too xx

@genieh, but then what is the difference with a coat and a blanket then? I’d understand if you left your child in for long periods of time unattended but surely a quick trip out in the car wouldn’t cause anything. Every time we went out in the car my lad always had his on 🙈 xxx

Ye it's because the straps aren't tight enough.. It's annoying though because it's freezing outside.

I don't think they should wear coats in the car either? I think they say jumper or cardigan is fine. And blanket isn't in the straps so doesn't affect how tight you can get the straps! Xx

If you pick up you childs padded coat and look at the thickness then pinch it. You will see it completely flattens. If you are in a car accident the straps of the carseat would flatten the coat on impact causing the baby to be flung forward at force causing injury x

Affects the safety of the car seat :) Straps wont be tight enough. Straps/belts are to stop children being flung out/their organs travelling on impact(lessens the risks of internal damage)..Maya was born in winter...I just put a vest on...sleepsuit and cardi and blanket over the top and hat :) And when the car warmed up..I took the blanket off or the hat. If we went outside put the blanket on and hat on. Then once inside the shop or shopping centre..took the hat off xx

As above have all said. I used these when the boys were younger. You get them in all kinds of sizes though.

@genieh, @kayteamay, @winterbaby95, ah I see so it’s not an issue in the car seat when it’s on top on the wheels in the supermarket on a quick pop out to the shops? Just not in the car. @kshelley, yeah it’s mega annoying especially when she’s already got a cold xxx

@sara-lou86, they look pretty much the same as what I do with her blanket so that the straps are still close to her. I’ll have to do some looking online xxx

@tremzini Yeah, its only an issue when driving :) if you are just putting her in the car seat and putting it on the wheels...and going for a walk. I would say that is fine :) x

These are from Morrck. But you could probably find them elsewhere as well. Because they have the holes for the straps they still get completely covered by the blanket which keeps them warm and cosy. You can layer them up depending on how cold it is as well I loved using them. In the pushchair as well as car seat.
