If i have another baby im considering using cloth diapers for the first time. What are the pro and cons and any advice…

I mean the cloth ones saves money long term, better for the environment, and supposedly better for sensitive baby skin but they also don’t hold blow out very well, you have to hand scrap poop into toilets, trash etc. when you are out and about you have to carry the poopy ones around with you til u get home hoping they didn’t crust over.

I love cloth. I would never switch back.

PROs

not smelly, FEWER blowouts, super cute & makes diapering fun, better for environment, can save money in the long run, easy to change moving baby, fewer rashes, great community of mommas, fun for baby to pick out/name/help with clean laundry/etc... Etc!

Cons

Laundry- overwhelming idea at first, but once you start it is actually easy/no big deal. I actually don't mind it at all. Basically, find a good wash routine (message me for more help on this if needed!) and you will be good to go! I wash 2-3 loads a week. And normally throw in some baby clothes with it too.

*Poop*- most people think this is a con... you have to spray or swish off the poop in the toilet once the start solids or if they drink formula (I think, I breastfeed). It's an extra task that you don't have to do with disposables. BUT really it is a pro to me! I only deal with poop when I am supposed to deal with poop which is when I am changing him and when I am spraying diapers (but I'm wearing gloves so no big deal). A blowout for me in cloth has been a little oozing out the top of the back if he sits and plays in a poppy diaper too long... A blowout in a disposable for us has been poop squirts up his back and onto my sister's kitchen floor or up all over the inside of my carrier and all over my shirt in the mall! Haha. Yeah. Nope. Never bought a sposie again after that weekend!

Leaks- until you know the right fit and absorbency for your baby, you may experience some pee leaks, especially at night. There is a learning curve here but it's not bad. I'd rather deal with the occasionally pee leak over blow outs anyway!

Addiction- it can be addictive! :) you will want to buy all the pretties. You may overspend but you can always sell! :))

Others- people will think you are crazy, gross, won't stick with it, etc... But once they see it in action, people normally love them in my experience!

& I've been cloth diapering for a year and have tried several types of cloth diapers and brands. Lalabye Baby is my favorite, go to brand! :)

& for carrying dirty diapers- you use a wetbag and can't smell them! You just store in your diaper bag until you get home.

Also, it never hurts to start with a few along with disposables to see how you like it and then go from there! We started out using a combination of disposables and tried out several brands and styles before we figured out what we liked best! Then we built our Lalabye baby stash and stopped using disposables completely by 6m!
