Ladies who've had a membrane sweep earlier than 40 weeks, does it cause contractions?

You're probably slowly going into labour if it's constantly best thing is ring up your maternity unit and see what they say x

This happened to me after my sweep. I had contractions all night not strong but spaced apart then the next morning they got worse and closer together. Might just be slow labour hun x

@gabilicious @mum2sky Thank You! Guessing it's a slow onset of labour as I'm pretty sure I just lost my mucus plug. I'll just wait till contractions are much closer together x

I've never heard of anyone having a sweep before the due date, they only offered me one after the 40 week mark! I've had mine on Wednesday morning, around 9-10, had a bloody show and some irregular contractions, then woke up on Thursday morning at 3am with stringing ones, came to hospital at 7am, my daughter was born at 5.20pm. But they did about 4 more sweeps in the hospital to make it faster as well!

@kate_smith I didn't know it was an option either! But my consultant was pretty adamant that I could ask my midwife for them :S anyway, I was happy to have a natural speed up. But thank you! Seems similar to me, irregular contractions and mucus plug, hopefully it's not going to be a long slow burn of slight contractions for days, that's my fear atm.

My midwife said you can ask for it at 37 weeks but they won’t offer until you due date , I had the sweep at 38 weeks it was a Wednesday and she was here by that Saturday

@katymoore993 were you getting contractions from Wednesday onwards?

@noshinxoxo, yes & I lost my plug and my back waters x

@noshinxoxo, we didn’t know my waters were leaking until she did a dip test on the Friday and she was born on the sat x

I think you can ask for another one every 2 days, at least that's the way after 40 weeks! My midwife told me that the second time round it is more likely to work if it didn't work straight away :)

Yes I had one at 37+3 contractions from then, waters broke at 37+5 and had him early the next morning xxx

It was the doctor who gave me one when I went in for reduced movements I think it must be the midwives that don't like doing them haha xx

I had one at 39+1 when my waters had broken and at 1cm...went from 1-8 in an hour or something. Sped up things. I was in slow labour for hours ( 20 hours or something)
