Ok so, Am i overreacting ? My Mother in law texted me last minute this morning saying to babysit her 8 year old daughter tomorrow and have her sleep over because she's going to Calgary till Sunday morning.
I said we can babysit but I unfortunately can't have her sleepover - last time we had her sleep over, she cried and peed the bed and she's a BIG kicker when sleeping. So I just know I'll be literally on the edge of the bed and worried I'll be knee'd in the stomach.
She doesn't reply to my text and calls my husband and starts saying "how can you guys say stuff like that. We're family" without even letting him speak about why we said no and starts playing victim. Im assuming she's upset because she never managed another arrangement and doesn't want to miss the party.
We have NO other beds but a couch in the living room, which I know I can't be sleeping on as I'm already achey enough and it's not enough space. But I just KNOW her daughter will be too scared to be on a couch by herself and it won't end well.
So Now I'm just super irritated; to begin with, I'm upset she expected me to just drop all my plans to babysit and then has the audacity to say to my husband that I don't care about her family because I felt it wouldn't be ideal to have her daughter sleepover in my bed. My blood was boiling. Am I over reacting?! I just hate being blamed for something that never even happened and I feel she really disrespected my own schedule and time. Sigh....

If i wasn't pregnant and if she had asked ahead of time, I certainly wouldn't have minded as much. I just found the whole approach so rude. Unfortunately I'll be having her spend the night because she literally has nowhere else to go and it's not her fault. Hopefully she'll be ok on the couch. Her mom sure is something..

To help with the peeing no drinks before 2 hours of bedtime , make sure she has at least a weeks worth of clothing due to peeing as well and if you have an extra mattresses or blankets put the kid on the floor, making a camp out. Use blankets pillows, sheets even make a tent with couch cushions.
Plus that is very rude of her to literally drop the kid off and leave, ask for payment due to her leaving out of town.
To eliminate scary things put on the tv for a night light, there does not have to be a show on just the screen. Be firm that there is no room in the bed for her.
