If I had to make a guess? Two reasons he wouldn’t use it: 1. Someone might recognize the Elder Wand, it’s a relatively famous magical artifact and if someone did notice he had it, that would blow his cover. 2. It’s super powerful, so it might raise suspicion if suddenly Graves goes from being kinda average wizard to suddenly crazy super awesome overnight.

You’re right about him using Graves’ wand though, everything should be blowing up in his face since it isn’t his wand. Maybe Grindelwald is powerful enough to compensate for it?

@sarahmartinez817, i don’t think his spells would blow up in his face. In the second Deathly Hallows movie and book Harry has to use a different wand when his is broken. In the book it’s a new wand that hasn’t chosen him and in the movie it is hermione’s wand and nothing blows up in his face it just doesn’t work as well as his did.

@pregomego, Good point. You’ve totally inspired me to pull all the books back out and reread the series, it’s been a few years since I last read through them :)
