Okay so for thanksgiving I’m in charge of making candied yams and green bean casserole. When I make the yams I just do canned yams and brown sugar and marshmallows. What else Can I add to make them soul warming!? Lol I’ve had them super good, but I need tips. Also I’ll take any tips I can get on making some good green bean casserole! Thanks ladies💕

You can try real yams it's really not that difficult. Then once they're cooked you can top with marshmallow or cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, walnut crumble. Then pop back in oven and broil on low for about 5 to 10mins. Green bean casserole use fresh beans. Canned is so mushy and no no.

@kambam, I really want to use fresh, for both. But the sweet potatoes kinda intimidate me being fresh lol, I think I’m going to give it a try though! And I planned on doing fresh green beans for the casserole. I used canned last year and it wasn’t all that great because of the texture

We put crushed candy canes on top of our yams. But first make a glaze with brown sugar, regular sugar, butter, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla

@naylaa, oooh that sounds so good! I’ll try the glaze for sure, do you make it on a low heat?

Sweet taters are literally the same as regular! Rinse, peel, rinse again to get the starch off, dry and slice them how you want. Drizzle some oil or butter then cover them and cook until done. The annoying thing about fresh beans is prepping them because you have to cut the tips and take the vein out but its worth it. You got this! Either way I'm sure it will be amazing.

Clean peel and cut up the yams. Boil until soft mash add butter!! Brown sugar and cinnamon if you want to add marshmallows and pop in the oven to brown

@kcamps, I use a double boiler on medium heat

@kambam, wait there’s a vein you need to remove!?! I never knew that, whenever I’ve cooked them I just cut the tips. Omg I’m learning so much right now lol

There's like a middle stem part that runs from end to end. Not a big deal but its hard n crunchy kinda if you don't take it. Kind like eating a hair lol

Last year I made a sweet potatoe casserole. I peeled them fresh, cut them up, boiled and steamed them, put cinnamon, a little heavy cream, sugar, brown sugar and lots of Melted butter and let it simmer again while it soaked up all of the flavor. Then I mashed up all up and put it in a baking dish and topped it with more cinnamon and butter then marshmallows.
