My son refuses to sleep on his own once he wakes up. Last night I for about an hour tried to keep laying him back down and he wasn't having anything to do with it. He lays down with me and he goes right to sleep. I want to break him of this habit but it's hard when 1. He's a terrible sleeper 2. He only sleeps a couple hours before waking up and refusing to go back to sleep on his own. And I get to tired to battle it or I'm already sleeping and it's just easier to put him with me. But he moves around so much now and this whole co sleeping thing has taken a tole on my back. It's just to much. Idk what to do. I've literally done every single thing to ensure he sleeps and he's just one of those babies that is a bad sleeper. He sleeps the same way even when I've had to give him Benadryl! If anything that should knock his out till morning. I'm at such a loss. And We still share a room for now so I'm literally right next to his crib... 😥

Benadryl does not make my son sleepy at all, and makes a few people I know hyper.
Do you have a sound machine? Any other room you can sleep in, even on the couch? Is he too warm or too cold?
Jess·
@nomli, he has a sound machine and I sleep with a fan on. I often wonder if he's warm or cold.. He sleeps in long sleeve and pants PJ's the slim fit kind and the fleece one piece suits. I cover him with a blanket cause my room can be kind of chilly. But he's absolutely fine when he's next to me. He has seperation anxiety. His room should be done by I'm hoping after the holidays. And he'll be moved in there. I don't even think it's so much us sharing a room it's just he wants to be right with me :/

Aww. So even when his room is done he may not want to sleep in there 😔 My son tends to get cold at night if it's below 74°. Which will stink as it gets colder out.
Jess·
@nomli, he probably won't :( idk what to do. It sucks. I love him and I love our snuggles but I need my own space too and so does he! He's just unfortunately I bad sleeper. He's been sound asleep next to me for like an hour now. Ass in my face lol, thankfully he's not tooting 🙈

My son is a horrible sleeper always has been . I’ve read your posts for awhile now . I finally got him crib trained and he falls asleep fine but usually always wakes eventually and almost never puts himself back to bed . God I’m miserable at times and at loss too. Will it ever get better ?
Jess·
@pnkbuttafly234, girl i have no hope! Everyone saids it will but when? When he's 3-4 and he sort of understands that he needs to sleep by himself? That's a long ass time. I try everything and nothin to show for it. He's the same as he was at 4 months old.

Have you tried putting him to sleep and then leaving the room for a bit? It could be that he knows you are there

@missjess Believe me, its not a long time, it just seems like it! Literally before you know it, he'll be starting school and no more napping. He will actually need the sleep to be able to carry on his day.. this is all temporary. There is a light at the end of the tunnel you just have to be reallyyyyy patient for the time being. He just wants your snuggles and he wont care as much for them as he continues to get older. Trust me..

@simplyshantell, thank you for your comforting words
Jess·
@simplyshantell, I know it. My patience runs out sometimes and I feel bad about it but Its when I'm sleeping and half awake and trying to deal with it. He always ends up with me at some point. But he has to be literally up my butt. Like if this baby could go back in the womb he would for sure!🙃 but it does feel like forever. We just both need our own space but he just wants me 😟
Jess·
@littleonemorning, it doesn't matter if I'm in here or not. Kid just has seperation anxiety. I can just imagine what he's like for his father without me, he must have a hard time unless he just puts him in bed with him too and deals with it. But even sleeping with me he's not the best sleeper either.

@missjess, aw. I’m sorry! I hope it gets easier for you. I know that’s what we had to do with my son and it took like a week, but he learned to self soothe which made a world of a difference.
Jess·
@littleonemorning, he doesn't know how to self soothe or just won't. Even when he was younger letting him cry it out was hit or miss and most times a miss. Sigh idk he's just one of those clingy bad sleeping kids. I've read articles on it. That most people think there is something wrong or that kids by a certain age should sleep through the night and maybe that's how it is with a lot of babies but some are just like how my son is. :/

@missjess Dont feel bad about it. Youre human and you miss being able to sleep uninterrupted, its completely normal to lose it inside sometimes. Just take a deep breath, and think "this is only temporary". I promise, its only temporary. The older he gets the more he will change, the more his needs will change and the more he will realize on his own, "wow, its more comfortable if i can spread out so i have more space", he's just too little to rationalize that. Its like potty training... Once he gets to the stage where he realizes, wow diapers are uncomfortable. Id rather be without one on, things will start to change. Its all coming in stages. Youll have to continue to bite the bullet and remember it wont last long, time fliessss!! And honestly, I believe knowing your situation that his father sleeps in the same bed or else he wouldnt be getting any sleep. I wouldnt buy the whole, yeah he sleeps on his own bs. He doesnt, he never has really been able to. They co sleep to be able to get sleep.. men sometimes have even less patience so just imagine, lol.
Harley Quinn ·
@missjess, it will get easier I’m sure! Don’t feel bad at all, every child is different and I know I was not an easy sleeper growing up. I highly doubt anything is wrong with your son, just something he is working though. Just remember, you aren’t alone, lots of other mommas deal with it. You’re doing a good job no matter what.
Jess·
@simplyshantell, you are so spot on! Thank you so much!! And yeah I can just imagine, must be hell for him cause it's certainly not easy for me
Jess·
@littleonemorning, thank you! It just gets to be overwhelming sometimes times especially when I'm tired or sleeping. Like I like my space and the tiny bit of me time I get!
