I don't know how you feel about the cry it out but I would say go in and check on him if he's hungry feed him in his room. Don't take him out of his room (if he's in a different room that is) but don't take him to your bed if you can avoid it. If he's not hungry and he's crying just go in a rub his back or play with his hair to he relaxes and try not to pick him up. Kinda like no you are not getting out of your bed till it's time to wake up kinda thing that's what we did with our son and now he's almost two and knows he's in his room till morning with a stuffed animal or two to keep him company.
