What’s her name ?

We keep going back to the name Eretria (Era-trey-a)

It comes from a book/tv series we really enjoy and we both think the name is really pretty

I'm I'm a fan of "made up names", but that's just my personal preference. When I named my daughter "Faye" a lottttt of people were like, "that's too old fashioned". But, everyone who said that now says they regret it, and it's perfect for her.

My sister works in HR and Hiring for a company, and has for the last 3 years. She told me that if someone has a crazy name, she usually skips over them if she can't even pronounce it. She's like, "it's unfortunate, but people need to think more before naming their child a name that is so far out there.". She said that if there are two people up for the job, and they have equally great references and job history, then she will go with the one with the easier name. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So, my advice is don't make the spelling all crazy (silent letters / weird spellings) and then you should do you!(:

@jennatess We like Eretria from the Shannara Chronicles (book/tv series), pronounced (Era-trey-a). We just really find it beautiful, but I've had some pretty negative comments on one of my pregnancy apps about it. But no matter how many names we consider we keep coming back to it as our top favorite.

@blackcanary91, the spelling is definitely hard to pronounce. I honestly think it's pretty, and feminine. It would make a beautiful middle name also. I say, if you're really okay will always explaining to people how to pronounce it, then go for it!

My other sisters' name is "Chapyn" and she's having her first daughter and naming her "June". She was like, "after a lifetime of explaining my name to people, and literally hating introducing myself to people because I just know they're not gonna be able to say my name right...I'm naming my child something that nobody can mess up pronouncing." 😂

I feel like names in general are getting more unique as the years go by, so, who knows! Maybe in 18 years everyone will have to explain their name a million times! 🤷🏼‍♀️

@jennatess Lol There are definitely crazy names now days or crazy spellings of simple names. I took the spelling from the book, it's one of those names that once you hear it it's not hard to say. Just hard to say reading it if you've never seen or heard it.

We were also thinking of pairing it with a simple middle name that way if she so choose to later she could go by it. Like Eretria Ann or Eretria Faye

You're right - once you read it correctly, it's easy to say!

I don't think it's "weird", and honestly, I'm kind of bitchy when it comes to names.

All the "add Leigh or lee or Lynn to the end" trend that's happing right now makes me want to rip my hair out. (Brinnlee, Bryleigh, Taylynn, Tinsley, Braylen ) (no offense to anyone who named their kids something similar ... just my taste!).

I really think it's very pretty. You'll just definitely need to be ready to be like "it's pronounced..." for a bit. 💕

@jennatess Thank you, your thoughts and advice are refreshing! It one of those things I expect to have to tell people how to say it the first time they see it, so wouldn't mind. And hope that she would find it pretty enough that she won't either.

My daughters name is Thea Lucifer. I've gotten so many bad looks when people ask her middle name. My response is always the same. Me and hubby don't believe in any religion therefore Lucifer is just a name to us and we like the way it goes and I'm sorry you think I named my perfect baby girl after your devil.

I love the name ♥️ name your child whatever YOU feel like fit her ! Only you know your child ! Who cares what anyone else’s thinks .

I wanted to name my daughter Penelope Rose but nobody likes it lol my feelings hurt

But at the end of the day we can name our children whatever we wanna name them.

@mamamia__ I think that's my biggest struggle with going with the name me and hubby love, my feelings are a bit hurt at the responses I initially got when we had such opposite feelings.

After the positive/supportive responses I got on here yesterday tho, I'm feeling better about it
