I have Medicaid but my OBGYN keeps billing me. I seriously don't know what to do. My credit is already shit from my mom not paying doctor bills from when I was a minor. I have called the billing dept. and they have said they haven't billed me but obviously they have when I'm receiving them in the mail and they are getting sent to collection agencies. I've also spoke to my case worker to make sure I am covered and she said there is no reason I should be getting billed.
When I was pregnant I was also on my stepdad's insurance but it didn't cover pregnancy so I got Medicaid beginning of my pregnancy and the doc office billed the insurance instead of Medicaid. When I told them not to bill the insurance they said they didn't have any other insurance other than Medicaid on file for me. OBVIOUSLY NOT!
This is why I don't go to the doctor..
Holy crap. Even his first ultrasound (when I didn't have insurance) was less than that! But yeah, they may hope to get both Medicaid and yoi to pay them. Does Medicaid cover everything, or is it like they pay a percentage and then you pay the rest? That's how our insurance works and I hate it, because we never know how much well have to pay.
@nomli I honestly think my doctor office is trying to scam me. Because I'll call the billing department and they will tell me they have billed Medicaid but then I'm receiving bills from them. They sent me one bill, I trashed it because they said they billed Medicaid so I thought it was a mistake, then I started receiving bills from collection agencies. For one appointment for a consultation about birth control then them giving me the depo shot is almost $300.
@ravens_mommy, I would call the billing dept for Medicaid and not get off the phone until they settled it. That’s ridiculous. They always told me they had to bill my dad because it was primary. And when I asked if they could take his off, they said no it’s illegal to do so. Last year they kept trying to bill me for my daughter’s delivery, which was $4200. Clearly I don’t have that to pull out of my ass. So I had to call the number on the bill and it turns out someway somehow, they were showing that the insurance I had was Cigna. I’ve NEVER had Cigna in my life, but I did have Medicaid when my daughter was born. So she had to go in and manually fix everything, and even she didn’t understand what went wrong. I assume the issue has finally been fixed because I haven’t been billed ever since.
That is so stupid. I hate insurance companies and the way the whole billing system works. I'm sure it's deliberately made to be as confusing for us as possible so they can make the most money.
For his birth, the hospital was in-network, but some stuff was billed as out-of-network. We paid it, grudgingly, but about a year later we were talking to the company about a different issue and mentioned that, and they said "sorry, we'll rerun it as in-network right away and send you a check!" That was a shocker. Apparently if you go somewhere that's in-network, they cannot bill anything they do for you as out-of-network. They try to get away with it because a lot of people don't realize.
@theinkedmommy His insurance was sending me bills. I think even tho it didn't cover it they still paid and I was supposed to pay them back. However, I no longer have his insurance so now the doctor office is sending me bills instead of Medicaid
@ravens_mommy, Since you had 2 insurances, they HAVE to bill your primary insurance (your dads) first. Your dad’s insurance should reject it, (considering it doesn’t cover pregnancy) and then it will be sent to your second insurance to be paid. This exact thing happened to me during my pregnancy.
Same thing happened to me, but it was the hospital that billed me. Even though I placed both my insurances on my paperwork they only billed my primary insurance. Then, they kept sending me letters saying they contacted my primary insurance & that I need to add my daughter onto it, even though I had already stated her insurance was through Medicaid
@nomli I have full coverage with Medicaid since I don't have a job and I'm not married so they cover everything which is why my case worker said I should not be getting any bills whatsoever. Her first ultrasound was about $400, which they keep saying they won't bill to Medicaid because they didn't have it on file then. I would go somewhere else but it is the only one for about an hour where I live, and it's even a 30 minute drive to them. Idk, I might say fuck them and still go somewhere else.
