Why do newborns roll to their sides to sleep knowing full well they’re supposed to be on their backs

Mine sleeps on her side and tummy all the time as long as im with her. My doc says that's very important for them and that they don't feel secure on their backs. Its not a natural position for them.

@juliaschade41, my doctor kept telling me it was important for him to sleep on his back with firm sturdy support

My baby used to always sleep on her tummy from birth to about 4 months

@mitiacarolina3 maybe cuz he's still a week old. Couple more weeks it shouldn't be a problem. Mine hates being on her back. Most babies do.

@mitiacarolina3 cuz he knows what he wants lol he will be fine. I doubt at 1 week old he could get to his tummy anyways.

She would curl her legs under her with her arms and her head to the side and she wouldn't sleep any bother way lol. It's probably because it most resembled being curled up in mommies tummy
