I have a 7-8 month cheagle (chihuahua beagle mix) and he needs trained! I had him for maybe a month and a half and he is getting neutered here in a few weeks but I’m having issues! Which I never had problems! I’m not going to give up on him but what I think is making it difficult is that I think his owner before me abused him badly...because if I touch him or go near him he pees and acts like I’m going to hit him! I never ever will hit him or do anything to hurt him I don’t believe in that but I don’t know what to do! I know it takes time but thinking about paying to get him trained by a professional to help me out! Any moms have any advise?

We have a rescued dog who waa treated badly. Almost no more hairs and a lot of anxiety when we got her. Most important point is you have to give the dog some time, I'm talking about 2 months or whatever. Don't bother him too much, let him go outside or relax, whatever he wants to do. He needs to adjust to his new environment. You write you dont even have him.2 months so give him more time. Talk gently with a calm voice, order treats when he's coming towards you. I would wait with the training until he's fully used to u guys and the house

Offer treats I mean... ☺

I would pay 🙂 I just put my 13 week old German shepherd pup in classes and she loves it and is doing awesome in them. Where I live, I only paid 100 for 7 sessions which isn't too bad!

@0711_sandra, oh he gets treats that’s my training method! Lol i trained my oldest dog and she’s very well behaved but we got her as a new pup! Lol

@angelia.lyn321, I thought it would be worth it! And seriously that’s not too bad! I’m just guessing her was abused...just the way he acts and he eats as if it’s his last meal and was skinny as can be when we got him! The lady just gave him away and called him a dumb dog and said he was worthless because he was stupid I was distraught and said I know some dogs are stubborn just need to figure them out!

I don't think I'd put the dog in training, especially when you think he was abused. Time, patience, love and... ... treats! Lots of treats! 😁
How's the puppy with the kid? My dog is absolutely afraid of toddlers due to their unpredictable behaviors. So make sure you watch them.

@sharonpaige13 treats and patience.... ☺ wait with the training, he will not be able to concentrate and learn if he's not comfortable in his home yet.

@jellyoldfellow, training can actually be a godsend for dogs that have been abused. One on one training lesson actually aren't as intimidating as they sound. A good trainer is supposed to be very patient and able to help work on certain behaviors to help the pup build confidence and a self esteem which is good for abused pups to build a good self esteem. It makes them less timid 🙂 I agree patience is key but you definitely want to have some good knowledge and tools so that you can help the pup grow into a happier dog.

@0711_sandra, I don’t know if I have time to wait for training though:/ he is how old and I just did some research...and it says that training has to be trained in a certain period or they won’t ever be trained because once they know things they know things and that is what they will believe which for his breed said before 9-12 months :/ so if I wait he won’t be trained at all! :(

@angelia.lyn321, thank you!!! I have a vet appointment to get shots and everything since his previous owners didn’t get him any and wanted to talk to them about trainers that would be good for him!! I read online that they have to be trained by a certain age or they won’t be trained at all! And I don’t want that! I need a trained dog and I’ve been very very patient with him when he goes on the floor, or tares something up he is not suppose too, or barks at people...I never once smacked or hit...he got told no...and have been given TONS of treats which got him potty trained actually but that’s all I was able to train him everything else he freaks out but loves my one year old! Like I mean LOVES which is weird lol

@jellyoldfellow, actually he LOVES him lol he is most calm and happy around him until I get up then freaks out...which I found weird right away but they grown a bond and I will do anything to make sure he is able to stay in our neighborhood...which we need a trained dog to do so because our town makes us register our dogs, kind, age, and our county dog warden comes and checks on the dogs, and no barking, and calm dog...it’s honestly annoying but it’s like the rules they just make sure the dogs are taken care of without bothering the neighbors lol

@angelia.lyn321, thanks! I’m trying my hardest!! I don’t know what was wrong with the owners before me! Or why in the world they would ever get a dog and hurt him so bad :( makes me cry! He’s a sweet guy for sure! Amazing with my son! So I think the owners are hair poop lol

We had a 3/4 Australian shepherd and 1/4 blue heeler and we had to give him to another family. We tried so hard to work with him but couldn't afford a trainer and the closest one was over an hour away. He started acting out towards the end of my pregnancy when my belly started getting pretty big. He was marking all over the house so we kept him in the kitchen where the floor wasn't wood. Well he started digging through the wall. We got him right before I figured out I was pregnant so maybe 9 months or a little more. I would of never got him knowing I was pregnant because I know dogs can be a lot of work and need just as much attention especially when they are pups. He was a very high energy dog... We let him run on the outside chain for a few hours and he loved to dig holes... BIG holes. He'd never lay down he would just run in circles until we let him loose. And constant running in the house. He definitely wasn't meant to be an in town dog and I felt like I needed to find him a home out in the country i know he's in a better place with kids who love him and space to run... I miss him so much😭

@angelia.lyn321 Ah OK. With our abused dog it took him about half year to get happy. We just worked with him slowly and that helped.
