This is going to sound dumb but I’ll ask anyway: Should I give my 6 month old Motrin for a cough? I…

I feel like the Motrin won’t do anything for the cough unless he has a fever with the cough... but I also don’t think a dose would hurt him. Give it a try maybe to ease your mind.

Unfortunately Motrin is only for fever and pain, call his pediatrician and ask them if there is anything you can get or he might need to be seen @melinanae

Motrin doesn’t do anything for coughs, just pain and fevers. At that age doctors usually don’t recommended any cough medicine unless it’s something that needs prescription medication, like an infection. My son had bronchiolitis last winter, and if it had gotten worse she would’ve given him a nebulizer, and when he had croup he got steroids for the swelling.

If it sounds barky, if he’s wheezing any, having difficulty breathing at times, or if you’d just feel better bringing him in, give the doctor a call. They can give you better suggestions too, on how to help him.

@nitarose070793, @nomli, @zombiemommie, @amalia., sooo I contacted his doc. She pretty much was no help lol basically said she doesn’t recommend any meds since he’s still very young. She even mentioned that Vick’s sometimes causes the cough to worsen 😳never knew that. She recommended the old fashion hot shower steam for him. She’s more concerned if he gets a fever so I’m supposed to see how he is by Sunday. If not any better than bring him in Monday. 😏

That's nice. Adult Vicks can be bad, but Baby Vicks is usually done, just not on the chest, I think. We did the cool mist humidifiers as well as Vicks and Maty's, and propped his mattress at an angle.

When he had bronchiolitis, his first visit she said it was just a cold since his lungs sounded clear, but by the end of the week he was wheezing and she said his lungs sounded funky. (We were going out of town that first day so wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious, which is why we took him in for just a cough.)
