Always require a deposit of some sort! I never do a custom project without it. Also, if you have to buy yarn for the project make sure they pay for that as well.

Also, why I don't do custom projects for anyone other than family or friends anymore. I usually just make stuff and sell it.

@laurenray93 I'd done a couple of custom things in the past, and didn't take a deposit upfront, with no issues at all. I can't believe I'm having this problem with 5 different people 😣

I'd way rather just make and sell things, I get so bored with making custom orders. I was worried I wouldn't sell as much, though I guess it doesn't make a difference if no one is paying for their stuff 😒

@joanna.davis if I were you I'd tell them to pick their orders up by Sunday (or another day doesn't matter) and if it's not picked up you'll make it available to the general public to purchase. May give them some sort of motivation.

And I agree custom orders are so boring. I hate custom blankets especially 😣 and that was my main request from people.

@laurenray93 I only do small things, like hats, as of now. No way I'd take on big projects like blankets, haha. But everyone wants a ton of crochet messy bun hats, and most of them want the same style, just different colors. It's so boring making the same thing over and over, and I feel like I don't have time to work on new things I want to try out.

@ash21816 it's super frustrating, I doubt they get "too busy" for their other day to day responsibilities.

@joanna.davis oh boo. That's lame. At least they don't take a lot of work and they'd be easy to resell, esp since it's winter. Maybe take a break from the custom projects and try out some new stuff. If people see what you can do they May start ordering the new stuff.

And yeah I got requests for those mermaid blankets 🙄 which thankfully are easy but took like 2 weeks to finish. Now I work full time so I can't do those projects anymore esp with baby coming this month.

@laurenray93 Yeah, I have 2 orders left to make (hopefully they actually pick up) and I think I'm going to work on new stuff for awhile. Though I'm going to be so busy with making other things this month. Lots of bday presents to make, I have to make the decorations for my 6 yo' s Zelda themed party, Ocarina Link Halloween costume for big brother, toon Link for little brother, and I have to work on decorating nursery for baby due at end of November 😅

I've never made anything that big, I just don't have the patience 😬 I'd love to make some blankets for myself and kids, but I'd probably get bored and give up, haha.

Yeah I started making a baby blanket half way through my pregnancy. I only have 3 weeks til he gets here aaaand I'm literally only just now finishing only because my baby shower is Saturday. I like doing the Amigurumi dolls sooo much better.

@laurenray93 both of my parent in-laws, myself, my mom, and my oldest sons birthdays are all in October, lol. I have no idea how this crocheting thing is going to work out when I'm home with a toddler and newborn all day, haha.

Yes! Amigurumi is the main thing I've done. I saw a donkey on Pinterest, I want to make it so bad, lol.

Make sure you get a deposit before you start. Too many people order something and then don't follow through.

And that'll be so adorable! I wanna make my boy Dr. Who themed, but he'll be staying in our room til my SO and I get our own place....so one day! Until then he'll just be my nerdy baby 😂

I have a ton of Ami's on my crochet board. I've maybe made like 10 of them total lol I'll get to them one day.

@laurenray93 newborns usually are pretty easy, but with you having to go to work, I feel for you 😅 With my toddler and having a newborn, that whole "sleep when they sleep" thing isn't going to work 🙄

I've only followed a couple of patterns for amigurumi so far, but I've done a good bit of a free hand, haha
