Last year I was 18 and my mother told me that I cannot claim myself because at the beginning of the year I was 17 now I am 19 and she is telling me again I cannot claim my own taxes is she tricking me or is this true that she has to claim me because I live with her. I have friends my own age claiming their self since they were 18 living at home with their parents I'm just confused and I feel like she is using me

If you're working or have worked this year you can claim yourself. I claim my self whenever I'm working no matter who I live with.

You can claim yourself but if you're not working there's no point. If you are and she won't respect your rights then claim yourself anyway and you'll both be audited 😂

If you're working claim yourself, If not let her do it. She's telling you not to because she gets a tax credit for having a dependent.
