IF ITS NOT THERE AND YOU GET IN AN ACCIDENT YOUR CHILD WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR CAN DIE.
THE STRAPS SHOULD HAVE NO SLACK IN THEM AND SHOULD BE SNUG BUT NOT TO TIGHT. IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO STRAP YOUR CHILD IN RIGHT OR HOW TO INSTALL THE CAR SEAT GO TO A POLICE STATION. THEY CAN HELP YOU.

Not all police or fire stations have a qualified cpst though and they give out wrong information at times as well. Like where I lived in VA, only 2 out of the 11 fire stations had a qualified CPST.

If you can pinch slack in the straps the straps ARE NOT tight enough. It drives me insane to see straps hanging off of shoulders. The carseat should not move more than 1 inch on each side.

Exactly why I taught myself. I read up on carseat safety, etc. while I was pregnant with my first.
