My son just turned 21 months. He says mom, dad, hi, & bye clearly. He also has quite a few animal sounds down and is attempting a few other words. We have a picture game as well with a Random photos, foods, animals, everyday items & he knows exactly what each thing is if you tell him to pick up a certain one.
My husband thinks that we need to put him in a speech therapy class because he feels like he is not talking enough. According to the 'internet' he should be saying several two word sentences by 21 mo.
I feel like he is not far off compared to others his age in our story time groups. All kids acquire their skills at their own pace and I think we should just keep working with him, reading, & playing with out letter and sound flash cards. I have had several moms tell me their kids, mostly boys, did not say much until they were around two.
Give me your opinions. Moms with boys, when did they start talking quite a bit?

My aunt's son is gonna be two in the beginning of October and he still doesn't say any two word sentences. Mostly just no, mine, and mom. His doctor said he's fine because exactly like you said, babies and toddlers develop at a hugely wide range. Tell your husband to stay off the internet lol

I think he's fine because at least he's talking and saying words. I have a nephew who just turned 2 and is not saying anything at all, still screeching and crying like a baby. His parents also don't do much to stimulate him and it's sad. So you're definitely on the right track and could be worse.

If you're concerned the pediatrician can evaluate him then refer him If needed. Our son is 3 and just at 2 and a half to 2 and three quarters damn near 3 he started talking a lot and now won't stop. He's not always clear but he talks. I was worried his dad wasnt nor was his doctor.
