So I need an outside prospective.
My son is three years old, he starts school (headstart) Monday. I went and met his teacher she basically told me they do everything themselves. Such as fix their own plates and no one will help him in the bathroom. My son has difficulties pulling his pants up more or less even pulling them down. He CANNOT fix his own damn plate he's only three! Are these things most three year olds should know how to do? Am I sheltering him to much? It really just has me worried about him going knowing he's going to be all by himself. The teacher really didn't make me comfortable with sending him there.

That's crazy . I need prepare my son for that then

Only thing I no is that they won't help in the bathroom as in wiping wise idk about the rest I'm sure if he is struggling they will help him? He is only 3... I'm sure they will make him try on his own though

@ace160 the thing that stuck out most was with fixing their own plates. There is younger kids in the class as well. Bathroom wise is some what understandable.

My two step sons went to head start last year and the younger one this year and there teachers never said anything like that just that the older one who was four had to be able to do the bathroom alone they didn't say that with our three year old but I think it was the same and that they were expected to try to do everything themselves but teachers would be there to help if they needed it so unless it's different there have you called to talk to the head person or a different person?? The person you talked to coulda just been a bitch and in a bad mood.. even our 4 and 6 year old don't fix there plates we still do for them I'm sure they could if they tried but most parents do it for them so not something they would know to do?

My two older daughters were in head start and I'm about to have another daughter start head start in a week and what they do is when they eat is they set the food out in what they call a family style and it's suppose to help them with learning how to plate food and there's something else but I can't remember. There is a teacher that sits at the table with them and will help them out. As far as the bathroom goes the teachers will not help assisting in wiping the children but if they are having a hard time with getting their pants buttoned or something along those lines they will help but they are legally not allowed to wipe the child's tushy.

@ace160 I'm going with him monday and just watch how he does through the window. I have no problem him staying home with me until he has to go to school. She was some what rude. I'm worried he's going to be singled out there. For many reasons.

@rebeccca3009 I completely understand the wiping. Just pulling the pants up. If someone doesn't help him with that he'll walk out naked. My son is the type of kid who will not eat unless you put it right in front of him. That teacher just rubbed me the wrong way

@masonsmom0609, yeah I completely understand and I would definitely go watch on Monday just to see hopefully it all works out head starts helped our boys a lot

@ace160 hopefully, she also said they only do about 15 mins of either reading, or writing... An hour of play. It just seems so disorganized

Wow yeah that's a little weird is that the only head start around you?? Or are there other ones?@masonsmom0609,

My son went to pre k 3 and I used to send him in sweat pants a lot or pants that had no zippers or buttons just in case he had to go to the bathroom and was in a hurry. They would feed themselves. I sent in a lunch bag every day so my son was used to feeding himself. In the morning during breakfast, the only thing they would assist with is pouring milk in cereal, that sort of thing.

@nerualauren they wont let me send him a lunch or anything in that sort. Thanks for the advice tho. Sweat pants it is!

@ace160 it's the closes one with transportation

@masonsmom0609, ahh I would just give it a week to see how he does and just make sure you ask him how he is liking it and doing there.. and just start trying at home with maybe snacks something easy to grab himself... I really hope it all works out and he likes it and is okay there :)

Мама четверых детей
I don't know if they make their own plate, but they do grab them and walk back to the table with their plate. My son is three too, and he's doing good. My daughter is in pre k and she's 4 also autistic and she's doing ok with it too.

Мама двоих (1 год, 5 лет)
I would try to start now with getting him to "try" doing lots
Of things that you usually do for him. I have a little guy in my daycare who is 2 and I've taught him to put on and take off his own shoes within a week...you would be surprised with what he can do!!!! Fixing the plate thing seems really strange to me too

I definitely couldn't send my child to a school like that. If we don't get a good vibe then he won't go. I would pop Up unannounced and see how things are going . You don't want your child to be made fun of by other classmates. The teacher should offer help . I would have to check them out first because they vibe you just told is saying no don't send .
