My son is two weeks old and we are having trouble getting a good latch. He gets plenty and have super wet and poopy diapers every day all day but my nipples are so chapped and painful. I cringe every time it is time to feed him. I didn't have this problem with my oldest. I'm thinking because my oldest had a larger mouth than this baby. I have watched videos and everything. I will add that I have large breast and flat nipples. Help?

You're squeezing your breast flat and putting it in his mouth w your nipple towards top lip? Has he been checked for tongue or lip ties as well

@kambam I am but he doesn't open wide enough. He hasn't been checked for either. My oldest had lip tie and we never had this problem. Its almost like my baby is a bit lazy that he doesn't want to open and too hungry to be patient enough to latch correctly.

Yeah my son was the same. You gotta try diff positions as well but really try and wait until he opens that mouth more. You can tickle his lip with your nipple to try and get it open. Once he's on make sure his chin is tucked close to your breast, nose up and lips not tucked in.

@kambam I have been practicing. I'll try more so when he is getting ready to be hungry rather than when he actually is because by then there is no getting him to open wide enough. He is pretty stubborn.

Yeah that definitely helps! Keep at it but would suggest follow up with a lac specialist
