So my child's father want to take time off for two months ( or three ) to take care of our baby. He's a school teacher and he said that they'll only let him off for two weeks. They said if he tries to leave for more than 2 weeks, he can come back without a job. Remind you he's worked at that school for 1 year. FMLA act has been a thing since 1993. The only thing is, yes he's a school teacher. However, he's like a community teacher at an after school program ( he doesn't even have a degree in teaching, weird huh) . I believe he has the right to leave at LEAST a month. What do y'all think?

@mommy.to.sterling, I think it is full time. Either way if there's an emergency or family issue and that person has been working for a year he should be able to leave

It's common for men to get a very short paternity leave. That's why it's wise to save vacation time and sick days to use them during emergencies and family matters.
My husband only had 2 weeks but took off a month with his time.!

@fasciamom, but FMLA allows 12 weeks for men , 28 for women

It has to be a certain number of hours worked that previous year, I think, so if he didn't hit the hours he can't use it. Plus, it is unpaid leave. Two weeks is pretty good, though. Most places don't have any kind of leave for fathers. My fiance had to use vacation days to get a week off. Even with the FMLA, I don't know if they have to have your exact job still available when you come back, like, they could have another position or something. Maybe. It's been a while since I've read up on it...

That's lucky. Well, I guess the next step is to contact a lawyer because if the school is refusing to follow the law, you might have to threaten them with legal action.
