Do any of yall moma's have lunch ideas that y'all use that don't need refrigerated or heated up and i could prepare on Sunday for the whole week or the night before? I don't want to keep sending my baby to school with the same old sandwiches with fruit/veggies and I'm not paying the school $10 a week for lunch. Also, they need to be healthy. I've searched online and everything is either so fancy or the food websites want you to subscribe before you see recipes/ideas and thats just ridiculous. I'm new to meal prep without fridge and microwave availability.
@hanahmarie2183, nothing wrong with babying your babies! lol it's a problem if we baby them when they're in their 20's and 30's. Lol
@morganmommy79 yeah, school here and where I'm from is completely different, I don't know if they really help themor not. Right, if my baby had a common cold she'd get chicken noodle soup. Haha, i still baby her so much even though she's in her 1st year of school.
@hanahmarie2183, when I worked at school here the teachers wouldn't sit down until every child (pre-k and k) was helped with their lunch. But I guess it could still get messy. But who doesn't love good ole chicken noodle?? Lol
I don't know how soup would work for a 4 year old. I don't know if the teacher helps them during lunch.
Celery and pb, fresh salsa and tortillas, of you get a good thermos you can do soups. They should stay warm for awhile then it wouldn't need heated up.
@hanahmarie2183, they don't have to stay cold. You could put the pepperonis on the crackers or the tuna. They sell individual packages of tuna for lunch purposes.
@rose135975 i don't know what I've done wrong, haha. I've tried half a lemon tosed it in it didn't work so tried a whole lemon and still didn't work, but next time I'll do 1 and a half and see how that goes.
@hanahmarie2183 the browning is caused by oxygen. Lemon juice should work. I put it in my fruit salads and on avocado for the same purpose. It's never failed me. Maybe use more. I put them in a zip lock bag and squeeze some in. Plus it adds a little tartness to the apple. :)
@rose135975 I've tried lemon juice before and it didn't work. We also use ice packs.
You can also get a freezer ice pack to help keep the food cool in the lunch bag/box.
If you add a little lemon juice to apple slices it keeps them from turning brown.
@hanahmarie2183 if u get a big jar it does, but if u get small, individual, unopened packs, it does not need to be refrigerated.
@morganmommy79 doesn't tuna, turkey sausages and pepperonis have to stay cold? We do pb&j, hate to keep giving her the same old sandwiches. I'm really looking for a variety to give her that keeps in the healthy foods group and not junk food.
@cbrebelkat apple sauce wouldn't need to be cold? I wont do apple slices because they turn brown and she won't bite into an apple. Haha
@morganmommy79 haha, agreed! Thank you for the lunch ideas.
