When I got pregnant I had to take a lot of chewable off brand Pepto tablets for heartburn, now it's like I am addicted to them. For ten months I have been eating them almost every single day between 6 to 13 a day. I love the chalky texture and the taste, other people get hooked on certain candy, mine is Pepto. I have tried looking online to see if it could be harmful but I don't really find anything bad. But here lately every time I eat I get awful gas and pain in my stomach so I have been trying to stop eating them. I'm trying to stick to maybe three a day then just one and then none. Yes I am tapering from damn Pepto. Could this cause actual harm and could I have permanently hurt my stomach or will it get better?

@vward I am very weird about it, I hate tums and name brand Pepto, the only ones I like are the rexall brand bismuth tablets, they are amazing. But I think the neccos have one flavor that is kind of minty so I may try them. I eat tons of wintergreen lifesavers to try to keep my mouth occupied lol but I will definitely check them out and see if I like them

@crystalhealing Oh my lord, well that along with the person who said someone died in their sleep from this has definitely got me turned away from them. I will no longer be taking them, I honestly didn't think it could be harmful until my stomach started hurting. Thank you for the advice

My grandma took pepto daily for minor stomach problems. This went on for 15 years. Then one day my sisters and I went to her house to check on her because she hadn't answered our calls and we found her on the floor surrounded in the most foul smelling vomit we'd ever smelled.
Once at the hospital she continued to vomit. The dr's checked her intestines and she had a complete blockage due to prolonged use of pepto. She was not able to digest food and was throwing up BOWEL MOVEMENTS! That's why it smelled so horribly. Not sure if it was a rare incident but just thought I'd let you look into it yourself. I wouldn't wish that on anyone 🤢

Are they the same as tums? I never googled tums but they are probably just alike. I have got to stop. I just love them so much. Ugh I wish they made a candy that was just like them

Eating too many Tums or pepto tabs may irritate your digestive tract and may cause side effects of nausea and vomiting. Stomach discomfort may also contribute to a temporary loss of appetite. If you experience persistent vomiting or severe nausea, seek additional care from your physician.

The calcium in those tablets causes kidney and gallbladder stones.
