So ladies, question. My hubs smokes. It was always a condition of mine that he had to stop and especially for my baby. He stopped literally the day before Zaid was born. He's not had a cigarette for 9 months and now we're on holiday in America with all his cousins. He said to me he felt like he'd give in. He did. He tried to hide it from me but I knew the same night straight away. I tried throwing his cigarettes in the bin today, he fished them out and we were out shopping so I didn't want to start a scene. Here's my issue. I feel like if I don't out my foot down in some way, he won't take this seriously. But we're living at his relatives house for our trip, we're around his family all day every day and I don't want to air my dirty laundry like that. In fact everyone in his family would probably back me. But I'm being a pussy about actually going through with anything. I keep telling him he can't sleep in my bed if he smokes. Yet I'm too embarrassed to make him sleep elsewhere while we're at relatives. Shall I just wait till we're home and then make a huge fuss? Because I'm at the point where I'd walk out and separate from him for this. Smoking to me is disgusting, my dad quit after 20+ years of smoking. Hubs has a history of cancer in the family. I'm not willing to have my children's role model as a father who smokes. I'm not willing to expose them to second hand smoke. And also the idea that you'd pick that over me and my kids, pick killing yourself slowly over enjoying life with us, It pisses me off to no end. I just don't know if I should make a big deal of it right now in front of his family???

Personally I'd speak to him once you've returned so you can enjoy your holiday. Then when you're back in the comfort of your own home express how you feel. If you feel that strongly about it then he has to make a decision. I don't smoke so I don't know how hard it is to stop but maybe say to him enjoy it while we are out here but back at home you need to cut it out please or something along those lines. My dad used to smoke in the living room for years and lock the door so we could never go in. My mum hated it but she put up with it. It's up to you whether you will do the same or not x

Id wait till you get home. Maybe once you are home he will stop. My husband smokes but i dont mind. He has an incredibly stressful job and its his only vice. Its really hard to quit so be patient with himx

Wow, i know its not very nice to be around a smoker but as long as he doesnt smoke around your children then who made you the boss of him? Its up to him not to want to smoke not you

Smoking is an incredibly hard habit to break. Was he smoking when you met him? If so I'd cut him some slack & try to help him quit again when your back home. Yes you have a child now, but if you knew he smoked from the beginning then that's something you accepted by deciding to be with him? I hate smoking & it was a deal breaker for me when I ever met anyone for this exact reason. But if he quit once then I'm sure once your back home, with your support he can again.

Only you can make the decision if your going to stay with him or not, personally I wouldn't leave him over smoking! There are worse things he could be doing. And I also think he deserves to be their for his children especially if he doesn't smoke around them. Have a sit down and a talk with him when you get a minute alone with him and explain. You never know, he could be under a lot of stress and smoking might be the only thing that calms him! It is extremely hard to stop, I've seen it be done, but it takes a lot of time and effort! Give him the benefit of the doubt. P.S you can't make someone stop smoking, it has to be his choice! Maybe he needs or wants support but hasn't been given any etc! There are loads of things you need to take into consideration!

I'm not having ago as I'm trying to help but, Maybe the reason he is hiding the smokes from you is because your saying if he doesn't stop then your going to leave and he won't be aloud around his children! He is his own person who shouldn't be controlled or told what to do or this will happen! Xx
I think that @claremagsbell had a good point there! I just think your making it a bigger deal than it is. Xx

Its alright saying hes choosing fags over his family but its her saying you cant be in the marital bed if you dont stop/do as a tell you

I think you should wait till you get back home, maybe even say to him smoke whilst your here get it out your system and back to normal when your home. He really shouldn't have started again, my husband was a smoker and when he quit he was going mad. Now thats the real reason he doesn't go back to smoking ecause he doesn't want to torture himself.
Tell him to try one of those electric things without nicotine it will help him quit this time @noshinxoxo
I can understand when you say you want him to live a long and healthy life with you and kids just keep talking to him. Men are very childish at times, don't make haste decisions x

@mum2sky @kayteamay Agreed should be once we get home. @sara-lou86 So hun, I know it's strange but our marriage was arranged and I didn't actually know he smoked before marriage. Otherwise if I did that was always a deal breaker for me. I put up with it for a year because he genuinely said he would stop and even in that year I didn't really pressure him to stop. I've never taken any steps to say u have to right this very second or I'll leave. But I think because I haven't made a fuss he feels like she put up with it for a year so she will all her life and honestly, I won't, another part of it is that in our religion it's something completely not allowed, it's another huge reason i can't see myself be long term accepting if it. @kerrydavidson6 And I totally understand I can't force him to stop, that's why for the first year or so I let him take his time and do it when and how he needed to. I've never ever put pressure on him before. What I'm putting pressure on now isn't the smoking itself. It's him telling me I think I'm going to be a casual smoker/I'll just do it socially or on holidays. That to me is something I never agreed to. I'm happy for you to take years to try to quit as long as it's something you do want to stop and are trying. @firsttimemummy86 Thanks hun. He has an electric thing. I so wish he hadn't done this, an entire 9 months and then he does this, just makes me so mad he wasted his own efforts. My husband is 10 years older than me, he has a history of cancer in his family, I genuinely fear for him and if he's going to say I don't want to quit, that's too hard for me to take.

@noshinxoxo I understand a bit more now where your coming from.. I would just have a discussion with him over a bit of dinner when you return home. Xxx

And explain to him how and why you fear for him hun xxx

@kerrydavidson6 Thank you for advice. I really appreciate someone taking the time out to not bash and reply so nicely ♥
