I had a friend who wanted me to shoot his new collection of leather bags and coats. He paid. Then I set up a shoot w an ex bf who does tshirts. That one was unpaid but it was good for all involved. The models did it for free too so we will all have pics to put in our portfolio
@avaandbri, I'm sorry to hear about that. It does sound like it made sense for your situation. I'm glad you're happier back home. Living and working in NYC is never the glam you see on tv. I miss it all the time but frankly I hated working in the city. I mean it's a love hate relationship honestly.
Wow you most definitely will! It does suck for photographers these days because every average Joe thinks they're a photographer so it's putting a lot of professionals out of business. But frankly that's mostly older photographers. You're young so I'm sure you hustle. What kind of gig did you get here in NYC?
@avie, I moved back home to Milwaukee, WI. my dad got sick and then i stayed. it just made sense to move back. I wasn't living the glamorous life you see on tv. I was struggling to make ends meet with just me alone and got really depressed. Home was the best move for me. But I will go back for work. I'm working on getting more clients to work with out there and other cities. My dream is to travel with baby (and the family when that happens) and work. I'm a photographer so I should be able to work from just about anywhere in the world.
@avaandbri, we're "upstate" now. In the Bear mountain area. It's a really nice place for Avie since we pretty much live in the woods and it's a super safe community. Unfortunately the worry of Lyme disease is still there. Where did you relocate to??
I'm sure he'll appreciate your cake lol. Food always helps with apologies 🍰
@avie, yep, we're back home. If I would have thought about it I would have reached out to moms in the app. But I already had a long list of people I hadn't seen in years, and still managed to miss a few. One friend I forgot about entirely. I feel like I need to bake him a cake next time we go. 😂
@avie, I found people to be very helpful on the train. Everyone gave up their seat for us, or helped me with the stroller. Except this past Monday morning. I think everyone was still waking up from the weekend. Haha. Where do you live in ny?
@avaandbri, Awww, sounds like you guys had an amazing time mama! Those are pretty good outings for baby! I'm considering taking Baby Avie into NYC by myself for the Indonesian Arts Festival in a few weeks. I grew up here in NY and lived in the city before she came... But to go WITH her is something that I'm so nervous about. I hope dad can come but he may be working. I might just have to get him to take off work. I'm glad you guys had fun though and ate good foods 😌
@avie, first 1/2 of the week I worked, then we saw the new oculus building at the World Trade Center (forgot to go to the memorial because we had lunch plans), walked a bit through Central Park, walked through DUMBO (neighborhood in Brooklyn right right across from manhattan where the Brooklyn bridge is), went to my sisters dance performance, hung out with friends and ate a lot of good food. I lived there for several years before Baby Ava came along so I needed to catch up with them and show off my baby! Oh and we did lots and lots of walking.
@bugs039, yes it was. Lots of luggage and lots of walking with the baby in the front and my backpack on the back. But we survived, blisters and all. Lol.
