So I'm preparing for when I transition wolf from my bed to his crib in his own room. This will happen in like 2-3 months. I'm so sensitive I'm just going to have his dad put him in there and talk him through it while he cries it out. How long do they actually cry for before they stop on their own? I understand it's better to wait till they are about 4 months before letting them cry it out.. do they cry for a long time? Usually?

Yes up to 3 hours the first night I would either put him in there now so he gets used to it or wait until at least 6 months. Babies that small shouldn't have to cry it out

It's better to wait until 6+ months if you plan to do the CIO method. I suggest getting a few things beforehand.
A baby monitor so you can make sure everything is okay and he's still breathing.
A night light and sound spa, so he isn't in the dark or in silence, that would freak me out and I'm 24.
As for the method of it, check on him in intervals, meaning once after 10 minutes if he's still upset. Hold him, talk to him and comfort him, rock whatever you need to for a few minutes, then lay him down and give it another 10 minutes. At that point if he's still upset which is probably will be, go in there and rub his tummy or back, don't talk, just comfort him with touch for a few. Leave, then give it another 10-15min and do the same. If at that point when it starts nearing 30-45 minutes he's still upset, TRY AGAIN TOMORROW and bring him back to bed with you. DO NOT EVER just let him cry for 30-40mins straight. That's fucked up
So many people hate the CIO method and say it's cruel, but if it's done CORRECTLY and made into a set routine, it can be successful. It'll take some time, not over night, or a week thing. Just make sure to reassure him, and watch him every second. Please hold off until you get a baby monitor and he's 6+ months.
