Me. I don't know what I'm going to do but it won't be that. A friend of mine said she had something else but I can't remember what it was

Yes you can get IV pain meds like morphine, laughing gas, or no pain meds

@martinajjones wouldn't an epidural be safer for the baby than morphine and laughing gas?

@juliaschade41, I'm not 100% sure but I think an epidural is a morphine drip anyways. I'm not sure about the other two but I look at it as this : if it weren't healthy to baby, why would it be offered? I think they are fine

I used nitrous oxide (laughing gas) when the started my pitocin to take the edge off of the contractions... once you take like 1-2 breaths after removing the mask, it is already out of your system... it does not transfer through the placenta to the baby... so it's the only option that does not reach the baby... but once I was in transition the mask just pissed me off, so I did not use any pain medication for delivery... with my first, I did not use any pain meds at all, because I did not need pitocin... if you can tap into your 'primal' brain... it is not that bad... however, I've been told I have a high tolerance for pain! So that's just my experience

@juliaschade41, laughing gas is actually the safest... it is the only thing that does not pass through the placenta to the baby

Epidural isn't morphine

@juliaschade41, well the nice thing is, if your hospital offers it, you can try it, if it's not enough they can then offer you something else very easily because it does not linger in your system... the other benefit of it, it help reduce your anxiety, you still will feel some of the pain... but it's like you don't care as much that you are in pain! 😅

I had epidural with my first and it hurt my back so bad so with my second I didn't get it but they did give me medicine through my iv I can't remember what it was called but it did not work at all. But with the natural birth the pain literally goes away right after birth. With my son I was taking Motrin regularly for a week after I had him but the second I had no pain medication after and the next day I didn't even feel like I had given birth I felt amazing

@meme2393, I had a similar experience... mostly I don't feel like I gave birth... I took ibuprofen for a week or 2 after my first just to help with the aches and pains of my body shifting... and I've done the same after my second... literally as soon as the baby is out your pain is nothing! It's amazing!

My hospital offers the laughing gas n I'm open to using it. I hate the the way epidural makes my body feels. Either my legs are super numb or just one is not numb enough. N afterwards I can't function the way they want me to n plus the baby be slow coming out. I want to do something much different other than naturally n epidural.
