How big a deal is it if a carseat is expired? I've heard some people say it's a ploy by the car seat companies to sell more car seats. I'm leaning more towards it being a safety issue. What do you all think?

My car seat for my oldest expired when she was like 4. So she was already well into a different one by then. I just got one used that expires in 2020 I think so we should be good again. But yeah you always pay attention to the exp date. Safety is safety. Too many moms use the conspiracy theories like "vaccines cause autism etc" without doing proper research. The car seat companies aren't using us for our money. Lol
Also you are supposed to cut the straps on any car seat before disposing of it. That keeps some one else from being able to use it.
@sixplus1 yeah it's from '09 and if my math is right it expired 2yrs ago...
@armywife72515 if it is expired, i would replace it. Rather safe than sorry.
One of the reasons they expire is because over the years the plastic is melted and moved by the sun.
@armywife72515 I would recomend it. Also if you were in an accident, Insurance can refuse coverage because of an expired car seat.

Yeah they have expiration dates for a reason. They say the materials they are made with begin to break down after so long. But they expire because of evolving safety guidlines. Most are good for 6years, which still allows them to be reused by multiple children. Expiration dates are on the bottom of the seat.

@swann.khadijah yeah something about the Styrofoam in them and you can get arrested for child endangerment
@ilovemychildren she's already exposed to autism in the first place (his side has Aspurgers which is a very mild case of autism I'm not sure if it's on the spectrum anymore but it was at one point.) Besides I think the vaccine thing is full of bologna and it's harmful. Anywho that's another debate. This is my first kid and we're really doing our research on it. At first I was excited to have one and be saving some money until I finally found the expiration date then I got bummed.
